Distressed Hiker Hoisted to Safety in Griffith Park

The 27-year-old man called for help when he became too fatigued to hike out.

A distressed hiker had to be hoisted to safety Friday in Griffith Park.

The hiker was reported in trouble at 6:50 p.m. on a trail near Mulholland Highway and Mt. Lee Drive, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Rescuers and park rangers located 27-year-old man in rough terrain east of Mt. Lee Drive, Scott said.

He was uninjured but too fatigued to hike out, so rescuers hoisted the man into a fire helicopter and he was brought to the top of Mt. Lee, Scott said.

"An ambulance will transport him off the hill,'' Scott said.
