Ed Begley Jr. Sees Success on Laurel Canyon During Carmageddon

The environmental activist says the media and politicians did their job.

Actor and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. was caught by TV cameras walking the streets of Laurel Canyon Boulevard while running early morning errands, and he gave a big thumbs-up to the success of Carmageddon alerts as far as Studio City is concerned.

"It looks like people listened and they stayed away and stayed home, at least so far," Begley said as he walking to his home not far from Laurel Canyon Boulevard. "I think people remember that, just like they did in '84 and they stayed off the streets. Back in '84 the streets were very quiet too."

Begley said Saturday morning was light on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, not far from his house. He credited the intense media blitz with getting the word out.

"Everyone did a good job and it looks like people are getting the message," Begley said. "You saw our Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky out there warning about it all the time, and it was a good campaign."

Begley recommends that people take a chance at riding a bike or taking the public transportation system for a change this weekend. He had his transit pass in his pocket.

"I'm not taking out the electric car or my hybrid car this weekend, and I think it's a good time for people to realize how nice our public transit system is," Begley said. "Soon we will have the subway-to-the-sea line and I know today that transportation is free so take advantage of it."
