UPDATE: Man Kills Neighbor as Both Host Parties, Police Say

Caitan Arreguin, 25, was arrested in the shooting death of Rafael Flores Baca, who was shot about 1 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 7600 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

A man suspected of fatally shooting a North Hollywood neighbor who was throwing a party was behind bars today, police said, and bail has been set at $1 million.

Caitan Arreguin, 25, was arrested in the shooting death of Rafael Flores Vaca, who was shot about 1 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 7600 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Charles Coleman of the Foothill Station.

The two men apparently were neighbors, and Arreguin confronted Vaca over a party he was having, shooting him on stairway landing, according to police. KTLA is reporting that both men were hosting a party in the building, and that a third party was also going on.

Vaca was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

"One suspect, 25-year-old Caitan Arrequin, was initially detained attempting to escape from the perimeter," said Officer Karen Rayner of the LAPD Media Relations Section.

Police searched Arrequin's home, and he was later arrested for the killing, Rayner said.

"A search warrant was served on Arreguin's residence, and information developed which implicated him as a suspect in the murder," Coleman said, adding that Arreguin was arrested yesterday. "The motive has gang overtones but may possibly be a neighbor dispute."

On July 13, a 17-year-old boy was killed nearby when he was shot in an empty lot on the 12100 block of Lull Street, which is the block behind the 7800 block of Laurel Canyon. That killing still remains unsolved.

That's fascinating. How exactly do you know the suspect is a foreign national?

After 20 years of backward, corrupt city policies, you just get a knack for these things...you actually start becoming psychic! Like, I can predict that the next driver who is in a car accident without insurance, drivers license and registration in North Hollywood is most likely is not a legal resident of the USA....its uncanny really....

Yes, that is uncanny. Seriously, though -- in a city whose population includes many thousands of Hispanic residents who are U.S. citizens (by birth or naturalization), what makes you think Mr. Arrequin is not?

He may not be Mexican, that's true. He could be from central America. Maybe he's legal, maybe he isn't, but one thing is for sure, its pretty predictable, no? Look, no one wants to be labeled a racist, and I have immigrant parents from Greece, but when I read these cases my mind goes certain places, in terms of who I think they are and I think that's what the other man is saying. Come on now! Don't be naïve, sir.

Yeah ... I've heard of this process: pre-judging people based on their ethnicity. I keep thinking there's a word for it. It'll come to me.

Gettem Steven. These are the same ignorant thoughts that cause violence like this. Not l immigrants are criminals. If that was the case the Indians should have wasted the Pilgrims on sight to save themselves from what was to come because afterall they would have been considered immigrants right? Instead they let their guards down and were on their best behavior. What did they get for doing the right thing? MASSACRED. Then to add insult to injury there was a holiday named after it. THANKSGIVING. Any questions? Didn't think so!!!

Alex, when was the last time you took a walk on that block of Laurel Canyon....I am on the 6700 block of Laurel Canyon, once a week...so what's your point?? there are a lot of latino's in the area?? lot's of illegal's in the area?? there are both..but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China...crimes are committed by all races...it's poverty that breeds crime, not your ethnicity...immigration status has nothing to do with it...the prisons are overflowing with plenty of non latino, American born thugs...

Actaully we have imported most of the poverty we now have in LA from South of the border...Illegals should not be here and need to be cut off from all aid my tax dollars are paying into so that we dont encourage more illegal immigration..As far a you statement on crimes, over a quarter of our US inmates are illegal immigrants..LEGAL immigrants and US citizens first....

The more I listen to you, the more ignorance I hear...so, will you be the first in line to take a dishwashing job?? or a farming job?? or is that beneath you?? who do you suggest take those jobs when the illegals go?? the blacks or asians lol?? I hate racism...not too crazy about haters either...

oh Jo Ann you speak the same liberal diatribe...how dare you say that only illegals will do certain jobs..that in itself is racist and an insult to every legal unemplyed person here....maybe if you had a real job or education you might understand that when wages are driven downward to an unlivable level due to illegal immigration then thats what are left with....If you ever travelled around the US, you'd know that there are legal immigrants and citizens working the farms, the fast food and other minial labor jobs...

I am educated, I have had excellent jobs, I am not a liberal, I'm a centrist, and I am sure many would take the jobs, however, I bet you wouldn't...and I am not a racist, I am a realist...there are many jobs that American's either don't want or want much higher wages...oh and i have lived both east coast, south and west coast...I've worked very closely with the illegal population...this may shock you, they are human beings...wow..

Your generalizations about Americans are ridiculous. I'm talking about legal immigrants and citizens and non legal citizens... stay focused....Illegals....Yes they are human, yes they need help, but we have financial obligations to those who played by the rules and are LEGALLY here first... by the way, you sound like you have a compasionate heart, which should go beyond the reality of costs or limits to your own budget..being said, im curious, how many illegal aliens do you clothe feed and shelter in your own home?.

Funny you should ask that lol...lets just say, I put my money where my mouth is...do you?? For the record, I will say this and I apologize to Craig for diverting this topic to this...I am for deporting anybody who is illegal and non-law abiding...but if you are here and are productive, hold a job and pay the taxes through your I.D number, etc...then leave them alone, I know of several families where an illegal parent got deported and the American children of that person lost a parent..no need to separate families if they are being productive...but those who don't work, and/or commit crimes, deport them..I have no problem with that...

Yeah this is my last post regaring this issue because it really isnt fair to bore everyone else with your liberal diatribe..I have traveled all over the world and have visited more impoverished countries that you have...but the reality is that money is a finite resource so until there is enough for everyone, its the Legal Immigrants and citizens FIRST....so I will ask you in closing...you have quite a big heart with every one else's tax money..and you? how many illegals being supported out of your own pocket???.None?...Typical

I have financially assisted illegal aliens, including sponsoring two...I have also used my own money many times for illegals...it's an issue close to my heart...I have spent thousands...like I said in the other post..I put my money, time, heart, etc where my mouth is...unlike you who just talks or complains...you haven't told me one thing that you have done to benefit society....above and beyond what the average person does...i.e. pay taxes...so nice of you to be able to afford to travel the world to impoverished countries..I hope you pulled some of that money out of your pocket and made someone's existence a little easier...then maybe it would be easier to hear your hate filled rhetoric..

Alex, either look up the word "diatribe" and start using it correctly, or just don't use it. Amazing how a world traveler such as yourself can remain ignorant of a few basic facts: 1) Illegal aliens pay taxes, including, in many cases, income taxes; 2) We have a large illegal population because there's a demand for them; 3) Both in California and in the U.S. as a whole, there's not really a government spending problem; it's a revenue problem. Individuals and corporations are sitting atop a mountain of money -- trillions of dollars. Hoarding it.

I'm still waiting to hear how you magically know the suspect in the case described in the story above your halfwit comments is in fact an illegal alien. You stated that as a fact (although it looks like you deleted your comment. Provide evidence to support that specific statement.
