Mitt Romney to Speak in North Hollywood Wednesday

The presidential candidate continues his campaign tour.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be making a campaign stop at the Valley Plaza shopping mall in North Hollywood Wednesday, after which Councilman Paul Krekorian and Eric C. Bauman, the chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, will speak on Romney at the same location, according to press releases issued by their offices.

Bauman will speak about "Romney and his record of failed economic policies," according to an LACDP press release.

Krekorian will "deliver a rebuke to Gov. Romney by pointing out the progress now being made on the shopping center and the surrounding area after years of neglect," according to a press release put out by his office.

A call to the Republican Party of Los Angeles County by Patch was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Clark Lee, the political director of the LACDP, told Patch that the event will take place at a vacant storefront in Valley Plaza shopping mall at 6317 Laurel Canyon Blvd at 2:15 p.m.

I honestly hope valley plaza gets national attention. Maybe a legit developer will see its potential. I wonder what 'progress' Krekorian is referring to...

supposed to be 2-2:30 range. Not sure why somebody would post an event with no time. Should we stand there starting at midnight tonight. Will be happy to come heckle. Everyone should bring their leftover No on Prop 8 signs.

Got my sign :-) While I may not agree with Romney's political views, it's good that he's putting a spotlight on Valley Plaza. It just makes no sense why this area with high potential is wasting away.

Funny that our useless, DWP purchased, corrupt, city council members have the gall to come out to defend their failed policies...No, we don't need another high school built in the area, how about enticing private enterprise to come in and invest? Haven't heard of that term huh? I figured that much when the majority of our Valley citizens are someway or another deceiving the system by receiving public tax money through salaries or tax welfare or not paying taxes at all.."you pay cash, I give discount" "EBT accepted!" yay!!!..Everyone scamming and with their hands out and the results are this......I hate to break this Econ lesson to you all but private money is the only thing that can save that crater once known as Valley Plaza, so please no more high schools, prison, pregnancy centers, shelters for albino mice, or muti cultural bla bla bla on our tax dime.......And wait until Macy's North Hollywood goes under...We will have our very own Panorama City right here!!! What a joy that will be.......with illegal aliens, welfare fraud, complacent self interested politicians and public worker corruption all running amok and raiding our precious tax coffers to the point where you are taxing the "real" companies to move away, I can't wait until it all comes crashing down so we can start again., Heres your liberal dream, uh nightmare...lol.....maybe fiscal liberals should take an accounting class at Valley College..no wait, theres a waiting list to get in.....

As a homeowner about 400 yards away from the deserted Valley Plaza, I have seen the failure of the City of LA in this area. Krekorian cannot dismiss the blame of the city since his office is at the corner of Laurel and Victory (unless he never visits the office). The City should never have let the LAUSD destroy the north part of the shopping center for a junior high school named for a Colorado governor. We all know what talking about an issue gets us. Absolutely nothing!

We are being badly "represented" by Krekorian after little or no representation by Wendy Greuel. I wish our community would elect a person with local interests rather than downtown interests (or Glendale's).

As a homeowner about 200 yards away from Valley Plaza I have to say is I do not want any more box stores where everywhere I go in this country looks like everywhere else and is destroying this country. I want to see small Mom and Pop businesses like there used to be there. I have no clue why a Ex Governor would show up there especially when his state ranked 47 out of 50 in job creation. We need small businesses, truly small businesses to go in there, and make it a place where we all in our Community would like to shop. Not another box store. We have Sears etc. I used to be in favor of the Big Box stores but no anymore. By the way Paul Krekorian has been there for our Community and has showed up at our neighborhood meetings unlike Snyder who left us high and dry. Don't trust the Billionaires they will screw everyone.

While that sounds like a good idea in theory, the problem is small businesses cannot modernize that location enough to draw in the masses. It needs one developer to at least create a nice looking "shell" and the small businesses can then come in and lease those spaces.

Agree with Jean. Business Success 101 will tell you that in order for retail to be a success (or survive), you have to have anchor stores to bring people in. So it will need to be a combination of at least 2 big box stores and several small businesses in between. Come on Caruso! Are you up for a challenge?

Having owned and operated a retail store I agree with both David and Jean. Businesses also need regulatory relief and incentives. Valley Plaza could be a fabulous success. Does anyone have Caruso's cell number?

how appropriate that Romney is speaking with Krekorian and Bauman, and i'm glad they want to trumpet his "failed economic policies" because Romney is just another Democrat, or, as we conservatives like to call his ilk; a RINO.

I just wish I had seen this in time to rearrange my schedule, so I could have shown up to protest against the economic ignorance of all three of these high tax and increased regulation loving hacks. They embody everything that has reduced California to incipient Third World status.
