President Obama Traffic Advisory for Monday

City Councilman Paul Koretz issues an advisory.

President Obama is coming back to west Los Angeles. While City agencies and the County Sheriff’s Department are working with security for the White House to minimize traffic disruptions, TRAFFIC MAY BE SEVERLY AFFECTED. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA IF POSSIBLE.

We don’t have a lot of exact traffic information. We understand from news accounts that the President will be at two events on Monday, September 26 -- the House of Blues in late afternoon (with Sunset Boulevard particularly affected around 5:00 pm) and later that evening at the Fig and Olive restaurant near La Cienega and Melrose Place. The President then will travel through Beverly Hills and West LA Tuesday morning, September 27, before heading out from Los Angeles.

We have been informed that La Cienega will be closed entirely from roughly 7:15 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday evening, and that streets otherwise will be closed on a rolling basis as necessary to ensure safe travel for the President.

Again, while we do not have precise traffic information, officials have warned that west side traffic in the area may be severely affected. If at all possible, we urge you to avoid the area entirely.

While I very much appreciate the President’s visit, I apologize in advance for the inconvenience it will cause.

ACE’s time is here. We need your support!

Councilmember Paul Koretz and City Attorney Carmen Trutanich have been working together for almost two years to improve enforcement of building and safety, zoning and other City codes. We are all frustrated that violations and citizen complaints frequently go unresolved and often are simply ignored.  Thanks to the work and support of dedicated neighborhood activists from around the City, it is time to answer these concerns by adopting the Administrative Code Enforcement (ACE) program. See Los Angeles Council File 10-0085.

The City’s Budget and Finance Committee approved the program in concept back in April, and asked the City Attorney’s Office to draft the final ordinance to create the program.  The City Attorney has done its job, and it is now time for Council to do its job.  The City Attorney’s proposed ACE ordinance will be considered by the Budget Committee Monday, September 26.  Letters and speakers in support are needed to forever end Los Angeles’ sad history of non-enforcement.

ACE provides an alternative to criminal prosecution by authorizing police officers, code enforcement officers, and other law enforcement officials to address low-grade “quality of life” violations with real time enforcement.  From overgrown vegetation to work without permits to noisy party houses to public intoxication, the ACE program will bring code compliance to our neighborhoods in a cost-efficient manner by fining violators instead of dragging them into the criminal court system which can leave violations languishing for years.

This program brings Los Angeles into the group of cities with effective ACE-like code enforcement and quality of life protections such as San Diego and Sacramento.  This program will increase enforcement, bring in revenue and allow the City to do more for neighborhoods all while spending less of taxpayers dollars.  The draft ACE ordinance can be found HERE.  If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact David Hersch or Christopher Koontz in Councilmember Koretz’s office at 213-473-7005.

Come and testify at the Budget and Finance Committee:
