Studio City Walk of Fame Highlights: 'Cassie & Co'

Read about the Studio City Walk of Fame around Ventura Boulevard.

CASSIE & CO.

1982

NBC

CAST: Angie Dickinson, John Ireland, Dori Brenner, A Martinez, Alex Cord

SYNOPSIS: CASSIE & CO. aired for 1 season in 1982 on NBC. The crime series is about the adventures of Cassie Holland, a beautiful private detective who uses her expertise as a former police officer and criminologist to solve crimes. The tough and feisty former police officer-turned-private detective Cassie Holland is played to perfection by Angie Dickinson.

The series came on the heels of POLICE WOMAN which also aired on NBC. The comparisons to Dickinson's portrayal of Sgt. Suzanne 'Pepper' Anderson were inevitable.

The theme song was written and performed by Grover Washington Jr.

The series was produced by Johnny Carson’s production company Carson Productions.

From historian Marc Wanamaker's upcoming book:

Angie Dickinson plays the role of Cassie Holland, a former police officer turned private detective who takes over the agency of Lyman "Shack" Shackelford (Ireland) when he retires. Dori Brenner plays the role of Cassie's assistant, a paroled shoplifter and A. Martinez plays a gym manager, Benny, who also works as Cassie's leg man. Cassie uses her considerable good looks and sex appeal as well as her analytical abilities to solve her cases. When she needs help with difficult cases she turns to Shack. When she needs information she turns to her ex-husband, the City District Attorney played by Alex Cord.

I don't think that "Cassie & Co." aired for an entire season. I think that it was cancelled after only a few episodes had been aired.

Cassie & Co was a mid-season replacement and 13 episodes were ordered by NBC. All 13 episodes aired from January 29, 1982 (ep 1 Golden Silence) to August 20, 1982 (ep 13 A Ring Ain't Always a Circle). 13 episodes is considered a full season.

Good to see A. Martinez again. He was a sweet looking boy here and a hot lead on the soap opera Santa Barbara a few years later.
