Studio City Youth Bowls Perfect 300 at PINZ

For James Knapp, 16, it was his second perfect score.

It was so quiet at 10:30 Saturday morning at, well, you could hear a pin drop.

Sixteen-year-old James Knapp was winding up on Lane 10 just after nailing his 11th strike in a row. He is part of the Youth Bowling League at PINZ, and about 30 people gathered to watch the young man with his amazing curve ball.

When the 12th strike broke the silence, the crowd erupted in cheers and high-fives. Moms cried and Junior League Director Barbara A. Lee gave Knapp a giant hug.

"Every frame is a new game," Knapp said after the perfect score. He has been with the league a few years, lives about 10 minutes away and has bowled since he could walk.

He attends Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, where is also an accomplished pianist.

He was an inspiration for a team of youngsters who just finished their 10-week lessons and received their own custom-made bowling balls that morning. With the win, he earned $100 from the bowling alley—and he did the same thing last November.

Knapp is also able to qualify for local and regional tournaments where he could win money. Lee said, "All the money is put into a scholarship fund for the winners, and they can take it out for educational purposes when they need it."

PINZ is starting their Junior League again this year starting next Saturday. Call Lee at (818) 769-7600, extension 13.
