Walter Reed Music Program Featured on NBC, Protest Planned Downtown
Parents, teachers and students plan to take to the streets Saturday morning.
NBC Television covered the crisis among the Walter Reed Middle School music program, featuring it in the news (see link here).
The two teachers and the parents involved in the Music Booster program are featured in the clip.
Stephen McDonough, one of the three music teachers affected by the reduction notices sent out last week, is almost in tears during the interview, filmed in front of the school.
Twelve chairs representing the teachers who may not be coming back next year are still displayed outside the school campus in order to get parent activism.
The music boosters have issued a call for activism, (see this flyer) and the parents are planning other protests in coming days, including joining a district-wide protest this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and calls to action (see here.)
