A chase that began on the Golden State (5) Freeway off Sheldon Street in Sun Valley at 5:40 p.m. ended about an hour later in the Silver Lake area with a PIT maneuver.
The chase of a tinted windowed pickup truck with a camper shell began when the California Highway Patrol tried to pull over the driver for unsafe lane changes.
For the most part, the driver was not erratic. Even on the Golden State Freeway the driver rarely went faster than 75 mph.
The driver exited the freeway in the North Hollywood area, but got on the Ventura (134) Freeway before going south again on the Golden State Freeway.
The driver spent about 20 minutes circling Silver Lake and Echo Park.
The driver drove on some narrow streets above Silver Lake, then headed back to Fletcher Avenue and tried to get back on the northbound Golden State Freeway.
The CHP wanted to stop the chase before the driver returned to the freeway. A PIT maneuver knocked the truck into a tree and the driver was taken into custody with little further resistance.
The truck did not appear to be stolen, CHP Officer Christian Carcraft said.
