I have a ton of Morning Glories growing on the western side of my property adorning a wooden slatRead More fence. Only problem, holes in all the leaves supposedly made by moths. I was told o use vinegar spray (diluted) to keep the pests away. Well, the leaves wilted and shriveled, so I quit the spraying. Any suggestions that are natural, without using harsh chemicals?

Sorry to hear about your problem Eva, but here's a natural way that has worked for me in the past,Read More maybe it will work for you as well. 6 cloves of garlic, chopped fine 1 small onion, chopped fine 1 Tablespoon of cayenne pepper 1 Tablespoon of liquid dish soap A few pinches of chewing tobacco. Mix the ingredients in 1 quart of warm water and let sit overnight. Strain, pour liquid into a sprayer bottle and go at 'em! It smells funky, and re-apply after a rain - good luck!

For many years I've shut off the tap as you described. Brushing in the shower sounds veryRead More inefficient; I'd bet that if Jennifer Anniston just shut off the sink tap and concentrated on showering she'd save water by shortening her shower time.
Birgit Keil January 17, 2012 at 09:18 pm
Hi Roger, I hear what you're saying! Thanks for taking the time to comment.

The visual of brushing one's teeth in the shower leaves a great deal to be desired from my point ofRead More view. UGH! Roger is correct as well, given the amount of distraction from showering the brushing would cause. I had someone come out from DWP to see if my shower was a "heavy" flow vs. medium or light. Old-fashioned bucket plus wristwatch with a second hand, and I quickly learned how many gallons per minute my shower used. Very helpful. If you are serious about saving water specifically from the shower, turn on the shower, get in, get wet, turn OFF the water, soap up, turn the water back on, rinse. Repeat if necessary. Two-minute shower guaranteed with minimal water usage. One more thing that I do "most of the time" and know that I should do all the time, but laziness prevails some of the time. I put two watering cans in the shower with me. When I finish showering, both cans are full to the brim. I use that water for both my indoor and outdoor plants. It is a little bit of trouble, but saves a LOT of water. Now if only someone can tell me how to clean the residue from the droppings of two five-pound Yorkies from my courtyard without "washing concrete" with a hose, I'd love to know.
