Let's not kid ourselves - when it comes to sports commentary, all too often there appears to be aRead More qualifying test that rules out those who have more than half a brain.

I don't like that we spend millions every year locally everywhere destroying a sensitive and lovingRead More animal. Breeding over thousands of years have truly made them instinctively the only other living thing on earth that cares for us instinctively. They have saved millions and millions of lives with selfless devotion and if we took the time to develop their keen sense of smell and exploit that devotion who knows? Ask a hunter how valuable they are at finding game in a stealth like fashion or how their extreme patience pays off. Silly sure you can call it that but just throw it away because we're so much better at taking care of ourselves than some dog would? Be careful in that assessment. Many have commented that allergies would be a problem. Perhaps but they wouldn't have to carry guns and would never be upset about serving as sentries away from a school. If nothing else it might bridge a gap of protection until we work out something better than arming everybody. This is a real solution. Anybody else got something?

Shall we talk about the effects of mental illness associated with gun crime? Okay. Let's startRead More with the paranoid delusion that your handgun is going to help you rise up against a tyrannical government. There's a far better chance that it will be stolen from your home, or even used against you by someone in your family, like your own son, perhaps.

Loved the story. I really cannot stand these presidential elections however. There is no oneRead More candidate or party that represents all of my political and social points of view. for a woman's right to chose, Gay Rights, legalize pot and prostitution, flat taxes for all, lower corporate taxes, pump for oil in Alaska, Right to bare arms, don't tell me what size soda to drink, we needed regulations on Insurance companies not an over 2000 page health Care bill... see... who do I vote for? Bring back Ross Perot!! Just kidding. "You gotta get under the hood and fix it" And Joe Biden is the best stand up comedian I have ever seen.

Thank you so much for comment Tom. I would agree with you except for this scenario. The GOP haveRead More been obsessively focused in trying to discredit the President with birther, education passes, he's a non-American comment after comment that will assure that President Obama a one-term President. The use of the Electoral College again with a vigorous effort to suppress the vote where appropriate and making it harder to actually vote is all part of this disgusting plan. If it doesn't work they will blow up the EC. Why?Because after two elections where the EC was their sure ally the Dems can play the game as well and the President's lead in Ohio proves just that as well with several other battleground states. If Romney wins I would agree that noting will change but the EC with get a hard look by both parites. But they are already running an irrational and untruthful campaign and if doesn't work and the President wins by means of the EC the GOP will go ballistic and the target they acquire will be this antiquated and completely immoral Electoral College. Not because its the right thing to do but because it didn't work. Their irrational hatred of this man will have a moral outcome that is good. Besides four more years of our President the EC will be toast. I am counting on it. I agree with everything you say. Especially about the tens of states, not just California, that are virtually ignored by every candidate and party. I make that statement in the blog. Thanks again.
David Whittaker October 26, 2012 at 03:49 pm
Yet Tom's point is inescapable: the economics of a national campaign - TV ad time being enormouslyRead More costly, even at the discounts that campaigns get - seem to rule out much hope of national candidates ever being able to connect nationally on a meaningful level. I just can't imagine how that could be possible today. At the beginning of any discussions about the value - or not - of preserving the Electoral College, we at least should be making sure we all understand WHY it was created and what is intended to accomplish. Here's Joshua Spivak's (Sr. Fellow at Hugh Carey Institute for Gov't Reform at Wagner College) take on it: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-spivak-electoral-college-20121025,0,3633209.story

Further I believe more than I ever have that we are going to be able to connect with each other inRead More ways we can't imagine yet. Social Media is in its infancy. Connecting with the whole nation will not be impossible nor will it be impossible for any of us to connect with them. A President like Obama will allow that virtual world to be created. The GOP would not.

Mailed my ballot earlier this week; it felt cathartic and a sense of some power for doing the rightRead More thing.

Early voting is getting a big turnout. When the GOP tried to dismantle it in every state where itRead More was a way of life those same folks remember the bad old days when they couldn't vote. Thanks GOP for help getting the vote out.
David Whittaker October 23, 2012 at 06:59 pm
Vote Early! Vote Often! (just kidding). Re: early voting. Conservative columnist Jonah GoldbergRead More made an interesting point in his column today about this topic today, observing that those who vote REALLY early run the risk of wishing they'd waited when new information about a candidate or issue comes out right before election day, a "November surprise", if you will. While I usually don't agree with Mr. Goldberg's views, his observation did make me stop and go "Hmmm. He might be on to something".

Bill Clinton was that voice in the wilderness that changes the unchangeable...people's minds. ARead More rational man, who gave us all an arithmatic lesson. For those who are math-challenged, you will just have to trust him...he has earned many university degrees from top-drawer U.S. schools...he can add and subtract. Romney and his crew are suffering from Deficit Syndrome...can't do math. They need to go back to school for four more years!

I’m sorry, but this is not a blog, blog, it is blah, blah! Rush may not be the only oneRead More over-medicating. If you are taking the time to listen to him, you are certainly not paying attention. But, if you are NOT listening to him, you shouldn’t be commenting on him. You can always tell if a person is liberal or not by the way they refuse to consider opposing points of view no matter how valid those points may be. Do you have a right to criticize Rush? Of course! Just as he has a right to question statements made by his Holiness when he doesn’t have a teleprompter. Unless Michelle tells him what to say, he can’t even say his prayers at night without a teleprompter. (Do Muslims say prayers at night?) I was going to submit your endless rant about Rush for Pulitzer Prize consideration but knew it wouldn’t make it so was thinking about a Nobel Prize since they are cheaper and easy to get. Mike did say he welcomed opposing points of view. Fortunately mine is much shorter than the original blah.
Marie Fairman July 20, 2012 at 02:51 am
Bob you should start a blog then you can say as much as you need to say. I don't disrespect Rush'sRead More opinion I'm just saying that HE doesn't have one. He plays the edge of the razor of entertainment and commentary. Regardless real or fake, some of his comments are offensive to me so I can't listen very long. But I do try once a month. The other part of your comment I find interesting. Why are liberals bad? I am Christian and I really do try to walk the path of Jesus. He called out phonies. He wasn't afraid of the consequences although in Gethsemane he does have a break down but steels his courage before he meets the fate which awaits him. I fail miserably at walking the walk I realize but that's where I'm coming from. If that's liberal and you believe that is bad thing to be so be it. I believe it is what I'm called to do. I did die once and was gone for 8 minutes. I lost 10% of my brain and perhaps that's why I'm so confused. Maybe being a liberal is bad and I just don't know it. But right now with the 90% of my brain left (of which I'm probably not using all 90% of it) I believe being a "liberal" as you call it is not bad. It is a good thing to be. I'll try to tell about how I, a Republican raised Hoosier who used my first vote given to me when I was 20 for Richard Nixon for a 2nd term, got to this place that a few of you here call liberal. I should probably do a video this time. Thanks for the inspiration Bob and your comments. Oh and what's wrong with Muslims?

Well put Chloe. Thank you.
Chloe Ross July 21, 2012 at 02:06 pm
Obama is Black. Obama is not Black enough. Obama is too black. Obama has a Black wife and twoRead More Black children. . Obama’s mother was white. What about his middle name? Obama is an elitist person of color (That is just a crafty word for uppity.) Obama went to Harvard. Is someone jealous? Seriously, doesn’t someone with 9 houses seem elite? Even on an ordinary day I would not use the word elite to describe Obama but I would consider the McCain’s nouveau riche and they probably think they are elite. I know most middle of the road Americans are pondering how it came to pass that a dark looking man is running for president. Some are scared and will not say so. Others are forming militias. If Obama was white it wouldn’t matter. He might even slip by if his father had been white and his mother black but it is what it is. This is racist and every time someone mentions Black in a “roll your eyes” tone of voice or calls him the N word among “friends” – it’s a form of slur. Like it or not.
Chloe Ross July 21, 2012 at 02:11 pm
Marie: another Voolavex post I found today. Thought you would appreciate it. It was about theRead More 2008 election but simply substitute McCain with Romney. And there are codes for black folks utilized by others to mention them surreptitiously. (As there are in all ethnic groups).
David Stevens June 26, 2012 at 01:01 pm
The last I checked the Methodist Church still looks down on LGBT people. The last I checked thereRead More has not been anybody (except lgbt christians) in your video that affirm lGBT people. Reminds me of the Indiana stonewall Dems that rally behind a Democrat even though he is anti-gay. NOW is the time for leaders to lead. If your church REALLY believes the way it does how come you don't have any comments or video from the Pastors etc?
Marie Fairman June 26, 2012 at 02:45 pm
Mr. Stevens, Thank you for your comment. In response to your first observation-theRead More California-Pacific Annual Conference does not. In fact at its AC it sent a resolution storngly condemning the actions of GC and calling what they did in their declaration again lgbt members was antithetical to Christian Teaching but you're right the rest of Methodism looks down on the lgbt. Something I feel as do many others that God does not share. There are several pastors and straight people in my video. As a matter of fact Pastor Amanda Burr from Pam Springs closes the video with "all means all". In all there are a dozen persons who are not gay in the video. I don't make the distinction because God doesn't.
Marie Fairman June 26, 2012 at 03:16 pm
One more thing Mr. Stevens. Ed Hansen was our Pastor for ten years and is featured prominently inRead More the video. Our current pastors have been on the record in favor of same sex marriage and lgbt rights including the passing of ENDA. They continued the same witness that has been going on at HUMC for the last four decades. We held one of the No on H8 shoots as well and would look forward to holding another as is needed. We understand all too well the over the top injustice that has been leveled at the lgbt community most recently from the Catholic and Mormon churches in 2008. We will continue to represent our witness until all have know the truth and all are free of hate speech just as we will not take down the ribbons which sit on our carillon tower until there is cure for aids.
Marcus June 12, 2012 at 11:36 am
I had to stop reading at the first paragraph lmao... ''Disabuse of it should have greaterRead More consquences'' (consequences* btw) Sorry freedom of speech cannot be abused, there should be no punishment, no matter how stupid, or non politically correct, and we have already a clear and present danger clause. This article is a shame to our country, and our perceived rights. If you say hate speech is an actual dialect, and not simply a term for those that dislike others being critical of them, to shut the critical ones up. I'd say you my friend are the one spreading stupidity. Similar to Ashkenazim calling ANYONE anti-semetic, sorry that right there is an example of free speech turning people stupid. Yet, I would promote every Ashkenazi to continue calling people anti-semetic, so we can explain that Ashkenazi aren't semetic. Simply an example of why freedom of speech needs to be maintained no matter how dumb or wrong.
Marie Fairman June 12, 2012 at 11:56 am
That was the point. I'm glad you got that. Free speech should be just as stupid as it needs to beRead More but it would be nice in an enlightened society to prosecute those who use hate speech. But then again hate speech as you say is stupid but for you to trivialize as though it were the disagreement between sports fans is to not appreciate the power of it. I have lived a long time and remember its lethal power. Truly thank you for comment.
