Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – Day 2 – A Colfax Family A-Fair!

The biggest annual event in Valley Village takes place Saturday, May 18th.

It’s now Day 2 of our 10-Day Countdown to the Colfax World Fair in which we feature an individual attraction, game or booth, food, silent auction item, and entertainment act you will find at Saturday’s event. The Colfax Charter has an incredibly close community, so today we’ll be highlighting items where the Colfax family is the common denominator.

Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – Day 2 – A Colfax Family A-Fair!

Attraction: Morella Water Park
The Colfax World Fair is so huge, it actually spills from its boundaries onto adjacent Morella Avenue. Some neighbors wouldn’t like it much, but since so many of the Morella residents are current or former Colfax families, they don’t mind the inconvenience for the day. The huge inflatable waterslides Goliath and Double Splash Rapids will be offering super soaking fun, and Morella is also where you’ll find the Slip 'n' Slide, Hydro-Blaster, Ultrazone Laser Tag, Velcro Wall, and Basketball Slam Dunk.

Game or Booth: Photo Booth

Craig Damon and Brad Isa are both professional photographers and Colfax dads, so they’ll be teaming up to create the Colfax Photo Booth. Step in front of their green screen and they’ll transport you around the world and beyond. It’s always a surprise where you’ll end up. Or maybe you’ll decide that the best place to be is at the Colfax World Fair.

Food Vendor: Lotería Grill
Studio City’s Lotería Grill became a Colfax sponsor this year and treated Colfax families to a fundraiser last November that gave 20% of all proceeds back to the school. For the Colfax World Fair they’ll be serving up chips with salsa or guacamole, cheese, meat or veggie quesadillas, tacos with shredded beef or stewed chipotle chicken, potatoes with peppers, and rice and beans. We’re looking forward to a Colfax/Lotería partnership for many years to come.

Silent Auction Item: Colfax Families Only

There are 438 silent auction items currently logged in, and exactly 10% are in the category “Colfax Families Only.” Since so many Colfax families are loyal Patch readers, it seemed appropriate to feature some of the eclectic items that can be only won in house: 6 months of baked goods, a morning photography class and mimosa brunch, a week (5 days) of custom snack bag comics by the multi-talented dad Joe Utsler, a Mardi Gras Progressive Dinner on Ben Avenue, a 4-course food & wine pairing party at Ombra Ristorante (a $720 value), a Karaoke Bar (without the bar) Party, and 3 hours of weed pulling. For the more conventional items, you can win your child’s birthday announcement on the Colfax marquee, reserved front row seats for 5th grade culmination or the Holiday Show in December or Colfax pillow quilts handmade by Colfax’s own Miss Kate.

Entertainment: Colfax Alumni Bands

Benjamin “Benjo” Markus is finishing up his first year at Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts and Cooper Ladomade will soon be completing 7th grade at nearby Walter Reed Middle School. Benjo and Cooper both spent all six years at Colfax, and they will each be bringing their bands to the Colfax stage. Benjo plays guitar with his band The Offtracks, and they’ll be performing the rock songs California Dreamin’, Mr. Blindside, What I Like About You, Surrender, Lonely Boy, and an original entitled Ungracious King. Cooper plays drums with her band Elements which will be playing songs made famous by Green Day, The Beatles, Nirvana, The White Stripes, and Weezer. Cooper’s band mates include Simon Carlaftes on guitar and Henry Morris playing bass. Other Offtracks members include Chase Puscar (bass, vocals), James Hansen (drums) and Brennan Pope (guitar). These bands are so talented, you’ll forget that it’s actually kids performing.

The Colfax World Fair takes place Saturday, May 18th from noon until 7:00 pm at Colfax Charter Elementary School – 11724 Addison St. in Valley Village. Admission and parking are free. Silent Auction items may be viewed by clicking
