It looked so simple... just a mouse click here and a little search there...and another couple of clicks and voia..I had a beautiful web site. According to Hila Schurr it really was simple. Well, Hila was incorrect, probably for the first time in her life. It's not that simple. It requires a lot of time and most of all, it takes talent. And talent is what Hila has..lots of it... talent and patience with a non computer entrepreneur like me..and experience. All of this makes her a very fine web site designer. When mine was finished, I was determined to find out how she came to this place. What was her journey? How did she become such a successful and inventive web designer.
To anser these questions, I journeyed over to her office and was greeted by the sweetest, most adorable and playful dog, "Lola" and took my time getting set up.I still regret that I didn't take the time to play ball with Lola as she sat near my feet with her ball in her mouth during my entire visit. So the obvious question to Hila Schurr of HS Designs was "how did you get started?"
"I call myself an artistic geek. I always wanted to be a graphic designer. I came from an artistic family. We came to America when I was only 7 years old and I spoke no English. I went to the University of Kentucky at Louisville and studied advertising and marketing. In 1995, I got a marketing job. I loved the graphics. One day a flier came in the mail for a graphic design class. I jumped at the class and really did love it, because I always loved art. Also, in 1995, I got a job at Zebra Printers in Simi Valley. One day in 1997, my boss said that they really need a web site and assigned it to me. Knowing nothing about web sites, I tackled it and discovered that I loved it. I just loved the instand gratification that you get. Its a great challenge for both sides of my brain as I love art and I love the computer, therefore the artistic geek," she said.
The rest is a short history. HS Designs has done web sites for Universal Studios, numerous businesses and actors and actresses. All of her publicity has been through word of mouth ( and, of course, her own web site)
I asked her "what do you consider you best decision.. your greatest accomplishment" Her reply "finding web design and switching careers. I might add, as a very satisfied customer, I'm so glad that she took this step.
In this economy, its such a breath of fresh air to find a highly successful entrepreneur...and she's very, very nice also.
