EmpowerLA’s Spring Semester consists of workshops throughout the City of LA that are free and open to the public, designed for individual members of the community as well as Neighborhood Council leaders.
Empower Yourself workshops are hands-on opportunities that feature topics such as Public Speaking, Social Media, Powerful Partnerships, Group Dynamics, Successful Advocacy, and Parliamentary Procedure. The tools and strategies presented in these workshop are designed for personal growth.
Empower Your Community workshops present tools and strategies for improving the effectiveness of Neighborhood Councils and include Advocacy Campaigns, Media Strategies, Outreach Tools, Neighborhood Networks, Communications, Wordpress Websites, Newsletter Strategies, and Managing Mailing Lists.
Empower LA workshops are hosted by General Manager (GM) BongHwan “BH” Kim and feature City Hall leaders at the GM's Roundtable. These are great opportunities for Neighborhood Councils to engage stakeholders in face-to-face sessions with the people responsible for running the City and delivering City Services.
Some workshops are very specific to elections, from the election plan to outreach strategies, while others address opportunities to work together in the neighborhood, such as Community Time Banking and Community Gardening.
Through it all, there’s something for everybody, including those who have been with neighborhood councils since the beginning and newcomers who share a desire to participate in their government and make it more responsive to local needs.
