EmpowerLA’s Leadership Academy is on the road with workshops that enrich lives and create community!

"Advocacy that Works, Outreach that Connects, Elections that Empower" is the theme for Saturday morning’s four-part session

Los Angeles CA: On Saturday, May 12th, at 9:00 am,EmpowerLA’s Leadership Academy is hosting a hands-on empowerment session at Hollywood’s City Hall that includes workshops on “Getting Heard in City Hall” and “Getting Good Press.”

EmpowerLA’s General Manager, BongHwan “BH” Kim will be hosting the GM’s Roundtable with the City of LA’s Chief Administrative Officer, Miguel Santana. They’ll be talking about LA’s budget and the delivery of City Services.

Jerry Kvasnicka will introduce the Election Plan for the upcoming Neighborhood Council elections, scheduled to take place regionally throughout the City of LA beginning in August.

Stephen Box will present Citywide Outreach Plan for Election Season along with strategies for individual neighborhood councils as they identify candidates and engage stakeholders.

Enci Box will unlock “The Mysteries of Social Media” and will introduce strategies for connecting Neighborhood Council websites and newsletters. Get your Klout on and put Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Constant Contact to work as part of your communications strategy.

EmpowerLA’s Spring Semester consists of workshops throughout the City of LA that are free and open to the public, designed for individual members of the community as well as Neighborhood Council leaders.

Empower Yourself workshops are hands-on opportunities that feature topics such as Public Speaking, Social Media, Powerful Partnerships, Group Dynamics, Successful Advocacy, and Parliamentary Procedure. The tools and strategies presented in these workshop are designed for personal growth.

Empower Your Community workshops present tools and strategies for improving the effectiveness of Neighborhood Councils and include Advocacy Campaigns, Media Strategies, Outreach Tools, Neighborhood Networks, Communications, Wordpress Websites, Newsletter Strategies, and Managing Mailing Lists.

Empower LA workshops are hosted by General Manager (GM) BongHwan “BH” Kim and feature City Hall leaders at the GM's Roundtable. These are great opportunities for Neighborhood Councils to engage stakeholders in face-to-face sessions with the people responsible for running the City and delivering City Services.

Some workshops are very specific to elections, from the election plan to outreach strategies, while others address opportunities to work together in the neighborhood, such as Community Time Banking and Community Gardening.

Through it all, there’s something for everybody, including those who have been with neighborhood councils since the beginning and newcomers who share a desire to participate in their government and make it more responsive to local needs.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 07:58 pm
Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.
John Walker May 21, 2013 at 05:14 pm
Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 09:06 am
Somewhat presumptuous this early on Voting Day.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

Alex Daniels May 21, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
Jo Perry May 20, 2013 at 08:27 pm
The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
