Fire Hazard threatens Canyon

The residents of Laurelmont Drive - a small house in Laurel Canyon - are in need of assistance of the wider community. For the past few years, we've lived with a delipidated house at 8174 Laurelmont. The house had been purchased by a developer who had plans to turn it into a lovely house. But after taking the house to studs, everything stopped and we've been gazing upon the house's skeleton since. Neighbors have called the city, etc. to no avail. Recent events have turned concerns of what was just an eyesore to concerns of a fire hazard. Graffiti grace both the outside and the inside of the house. Beer bottles are strewn about as well. With the drought and presence of transients in the house, we believe the risk of fire is on 'high alert.' Just a few months ago, three young men lit an illegal campfire that got away from them resulting in a devestating fire in Glendora. The Griffith Park fire was supposedly started by a carelessly tossed cigarette. We are very concerned that something like that could happen here. An out of in Laurel Canyon would be a nightmare for whole city and we are asking residents in the area to voice their concerns with their local representatives.  Thank you.
