Former L.A. City Councilman Richard Alarcon:…

Tragic Pit Bull attack on Ventura

I saw these gentlemen speak at the SCNC meeting and was never so moved! This is a tragedy. Lush Shoes should be ashamed for allowing unleashed dogs in their places of business. I agree that pit bulls should be banned. hear's the full story and a very dramatic video http://www.examiner.com/article/pit-bull-attacks-2-men-and-puppy-on-ventura-boulevard

Hi Dave- I actually witnessed this very unfortunate incident on Ventura Blvd. My heart goes out to this family. To this day I can not get the noise and the terror out of my head. I have been following this story as much as I can because it is truly devastating. Being local and spending most of my Sundays walking up and down the Blvd, I think you should gather your facts before you start blasting our neighborhood stores. This dog HAD a leash on during the attack. The only thing that was missing was this dogs owner. She was most likely shopping and was to preoccupied to notice her dog left that store.

The dog did not have a "leash on" if the leash was not attached to a human being. Worry about the horrible preventable situation, who cares about the store, maybe they shouldn't allow pit bulls in the store. I know I am not shopping with big dogs around. And why didn't this stupid stupid woman not restrain her dog when it started a vicious attack, grab the leash, grab the dog, give it a stop command?

Sheri- Being that I am not "this stupid woman," I can not answer those questions. I was only trying to make a point that the stores should not be shamed, this woman should be. Yes, there should also be some laws in place regarding owning a pit bull breed. You seem like you are a very miserable person. Being on a computer where you can not show your face and make rude remarks is probably the perfect place for someone like you.

My name in Rusty and I am the second person who was attacked on that awful day. You often read my other name in articles......Howard. Thank you all for your support and suggestions and just to keep you posted on the latest, Stephen and I recently went to see an animal services hearing to determine if an animal is dangerous. The "judge" listened to the perpetrator behind closed doors, came out and told the victim's family the dog will have to be muzzled and take classes. He did not listen to the victim's side AT ALL and said there is no definition of a dangerous dog...........a blatant lie since it is clearly stated in LA CITY STATUTE. This victim was an 8 year old boy who almost lost his life if not for his father's quick actions. Unfortunately, this little guys lost of all his rights to be heard this day. Our own court date is STILL pending and we will keep you posted. Leash laws are not enforced and police cannot give a ticket unless they see the dog lose. Staring at my sweet puppy's lifeless body should have told ANYONE what happened. And the owner ADMITTED she was not holding the leash and still no citation. Political correctness runs this town and will adventually be it's downfall.

Hi, I wanted to mention that there is a woman in Riverside, Long Island, NY that is suing the town for a pit bull attack. Different reasons than yours, but worth watching. The pit bull advocacy groups are a wealthy lobby and are paying off legislators to get BSL changed in various towns. I wonder if they have your judge in their pocket.
