Stage Right Productions Summer Musical Theater Workshop 2012

A two week summer Musical Theater workshop run by Broadway professionals culminating in a small scale production of Hairspray.

Want to be one of the “Nicest kids in town” in Hairspray this summer? Then come be a part of Studio City’s best kept secret. Stage Right Productions summer musical theater camp and workshop at the beautiful new NoHo Pac Performing Arts Center in NoHo. From July 16th-27th Monday - Friday 9:30-3:30 pm.

I chose the NoHo Pac Theater after a friend showed me the space. It is unique in the sense that it has a rehearsal space and performance space under one roof and a great group of people who were excited to house their first summer musical theater camp for kids as much as I was. It has been a dream of mine always to offer a look into the professional world of musical theater for kids on every skill level in singing, acting and dance. I first started my program back in 2009 when I took over the after school drama enrichment program at Carpenter Avenue Elementary School where my daughter was attending before she moved to SOCES in Tarzana. The program was an instant success and since then has had up to 65 children in a production. Children received instruction in dance, acting and singing and were instantly elevated to a new performance level not only in the performing arts but in their daily activities and academic performance as well. I don’t think parents ever imagined how far their children could go when they took on the task and discipline of auditioning for a role they wanted but also the joy and great sense of accomplishment they would experience from creating a role such as Willy Wonka or the cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz .Or from learning complex choreography from shows like Cats, and A chorus Line. Everyone had a blast and always wanted to know what the next show was before the current one was even over. Since Carpenter I have expanded my after school program and partner with the very funny Mr. Billy Riback. Executive producer and writer for such blockbuster hit network Television shows such as Home Improvement, Suite Life of Zach and Cody, Suite Life of Zach and Cody on Deck, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and more. Our last six week children’s acting intensive featured eleven students between the ages of nine and fourteen that we showcased in front of about fifteen prominent agents in the business. Nine of the eleven students were called in for representation. It was a thrill for them and us!

This year when I wanted to launch my first summer musical theater camp and wondered how I would raise the funds, my Broadway friends, former and present suggested I start a Kickstarter campaign. Not only did I reach my goal but I exceeded it which is a good thing because renting space in town is very expensive. There are so many costs that go into putting on a show that people are not aware of. You want the best team possible and want the kids to get the best possible training especially when they are just starting out. I had an outpour of support from friends from Broadway, actors, writers, directors from Csi, Two and Half Men, Ncis , Disney, Seinfeld , Kiis Fm with Ryan Seacrest , Ktla and Stage Right families I had met from my Carpenter days.  They believed in this project as well as in supporting our youth in the performing arts and me. The best compliment anyone could ever ask for.  It is because of them that I am able to do this. Want to join a winning team and learn from the best? Then look no further. I seriously can't thank you enough for the time, patience, and energy you put in to make all those kids (and us gushing parents) have an evening we'll never forget! thank you especially for the encouragement you gave  my daughter. Xoxo

-S.M, Stage Right Parent

The show was truly amazing work for a group of 8-10 year olds!  We can barely get our son to listen to us, let alone get a giant group of children working together so well! How you managed to do it is remarkable - and we are very grateful you were willing to take this on.

-Nancy & Mark, Stage Right Parents

“Everyone was so great and it's all thanks to you and all your hard work. I love you Arminae, you have taught (my son) to love the art of drama and he and I will always be thankful to you for that. If (my son) was great then you are equally as great because he has learned everything from you!

ok. have now spent some time navigating the new patch. i hope everyone will give it a chance. it'sRead More growing on me. i think once everyone is more familiar with the new version they'll like it too.

@MikeSzymanski I must admit that I haven't been able to detect a new format. Where is the format?Read More Who designed this? All I can tell is that there is a beautiful shot of trees -- perfect! Under that banner all hell breaks lose and you can't tell what you're looking it. There might be a huge blowup of Mr. Walker or a too big notice of something official-looking -- possibly an agenda. I have not been able to navigate through all the stuff. Lots of white space on either side which gives me impression that we're tailoring a community paper more toward an iphone or smart phone (or a tablet). Maybe I need a GPS to find a good list of contents here. In the meantime, it's not very attractive (exception for the banner trees photo) nor entertaining and not very informative. Scotty Reston, where are you now that we need you?

the picture selected is nice and it well suits the page. it would be nice to see the full pic. tooRead More bad so much of it is blocked from the top portion of the content....any chance of seeing the full picture and starting the content beneath it?

I find this very disconcerting. Mel Randall who is on the Land Use Committee was asked to submit hisRead More name. We assumed qualifications would be checked and then those best suited would be chosen. Two entries of the same name is in itself so bad makes me feel that all of this should be redone.

I was at the meeting last night and saw all I need to see on how our neighborhood council work. TheyRead More had a drawing for the grievance panel. WHAT A SHAM!! They drew 1 guys name twice and rather than stop the proceedings and make sure that the names in the hat were legitimate and no other duplicates exist and redo the drawing, they just drew another name. Now it probably was just a fluke but the appearance of a rigged drawing is there and it taints the whole council and it proceedings. It is very apparent why we need a grievance panel in the first place. When the appearance of corruption exists at the lowest levels of our democratic process it is no wonder that the whole system is collapsing before our eyes. Our neighborhood council should hang their heads in shame!
