2012 Major Issue: Homlessness in the Valley [VIDEO]

To serve the increased number of homeless people in the Valley, a traveling shower truck gives those who need it a chance to clean up and receive a change of clothes. This video report follows the truck to one of its stops.

Once a week, a mobile shower truck from the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission offers showers to people in Sherman Oaks who are living on the streets or in their cars. The number of people who have no access to a bathroom on a daily basis reportedly has increased dramatically over the past two years.

Rob Baskerville of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission said the number of homeless in the Valley during the past year has increased from about 7,000 to between 8,000 and 9,000 people.

The "mobile shower unit," which travels to a different Valley neighborhood six days a week, offers people a chance to clean up and receive fresh clothing.
