Moms Talk: What Is the Perfect Mother's Day Gift?

Mother's Day is coming next month. What are you hoping to receive? Join the discussion!

Moms Talk is a weekly feature on Sherman Oaks Patch, in which local parents are invited to share opinions and advice on parenting issues.

Each week our Moms Council members will discuss a different issue. Join the conversation by weighing in on a topic or asking questions.

 Our Moms Council members include:

Linda Arbiter:  A licensed family therapist in Sherman Oaks, Linda is also the mother of three children. Linda's specialities include parenting issues, adolescent development and anxiety issues involving children.

Michele Dahl: Michele is a freelance writer and mother to 3-year-old firecracker Shelby and 1-year-old sweetheart Cash. In between working three jobs—not including her unpaid gig as a mommy—she is a contributing writer and product reviewer for hollywoodmomblog.com.

Randi Green: Randi is raising three children, ages 18, 15 and 10. She is a personal trainer, working with children as well as adults. Randi says: "I’ve dealt with the terrible twos, the trying tweens and the terrific/horrific teen years, and have firm opinions on it all!"

Rose Sevilla: Rose is a full-time personal assistant to her toddler, Alastair, and is pregnant with twin boys. She holds a master's degree in linguistics and consults as a language/learning specialist. Prior to entering motherhood, Rose was a classroom teacher for nearly a decade.

This week's question is posed by Rose Sevilla. With Mother's Day coming next month, what would be the ideal gift you would like to receive? Why? Tell us in the comments section at the upper left-hand side of the site.

(Rose says she definitely doesn't want a blender.)

Mother's Day. Seems like it should be a very special day. I'm so blessed with my three beautiful children. Teaching Parenting classes and working in the mental health field, I hear daily the struggles presented by the holidays. New mother's trying to please two families, blended families struggling to find a way to create happy memories for the children, families that have suffered a loss of a mother during the year. Life on life's terms. Sometimes it's all about just celebrating life and taking the day to rejoice in our blessings. On a more peronal note, I used to keep a file of pictures from magazines...things I admired. My kids knew it was in the kitchen and could use the pictures as ideas for gifts, they loved the idea of being able to surprise me with something I wanted! Happy Mother's Day!

I'd love a couple hours to myself...I don't care what I'm doing as long as it's quiet and peaceful.

I have been working so much lately that this year for Mother's Day, all I really want is to spend a fun, relaxing day with my family... maybe a picnic at the park or the beach, a wagon ride for the kids or a stroll through the Farmer's Market. I realized today as my daughter called me Araceli (our nanny's name!) that I desperately need some quality time with the kiddos. And if we're talking kitchen appliances.. a Keurig would be nice!

A gift certificate to Burke Williams. Breakfast and Mimosas with another mom friend (sans family), a few hours at the spa, meet-up for lunch somewhere on the Blvd with Husband and Son for lunch. Walk and shop for a few hours. Back home for Husband to keep serving me mimosas for the rest of the day while I play with my litlle guy and Husband takes care of dinner. It's the gift of "TIME". The perfect combination of a day filled with time with a friend, myself, my family, and my son!
