One Billion Rising For Justice Talks Begin Monday for Valley Gathering

Organizers for annual Valentine's Day global gathering to host brainstorming session at the Studio City Public Library for the San Fernando Valley.

Organizers advocating to end violence against women want to participate in the movement One Billion Rising For Justice, which was highly successful in 2013, and explore how to find a place for the 2014 gathering in the San Fernando Valley.

The discussion begins Monday, Nov. 25 at the Studio City Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m., according to volunteer, resident and Studio City Patch blogger Debra Graff.

One Billion Rising For Justice is a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in community outside places where they are entitled to justice. On Feb. 14, 2013, there was a highly successful gathering downtown at L.A. Live, which was star studded, including actress Jane Fonda, and attended by thousands.

"We're really excited because they didn't have any thing in the San Fernando Valley," Graff tells Patch. "This will help us determine how many to get involved."

Graff, who is volunteering as the point person for the Valley, says the gatherings worldwide are very moving, especially the one in L.A.

"Peoplel talked about their experiences being abused, and people in Africa and every country is doing this same thing at the same time, all on Feb. 14, 2014," she added.

Locally, Graff suggested ideas like gathering at CBS Radford Studios or the North Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. In addition, Graff said she hopes the Studio City Chamber of Commerce and as many businesses as possible to come.

For those interested on learning more and getting involved, Graff said she can be reached at 818-753-8898.
