The Spoonful is a spoonful of southern taste

The Spoonful, located on Cahuenga, just recently opened for lunch time, bringing southern eats to your busy days.

The Spoonful caters to a southern style that specialize in traditional dishes from the south, but with their own twist.

Their po’ boy sandwiches are an excellent twist of the famous Louisiana sandwich. There have been many different versions of the po’boy sandwich but what makes the Spoonful’s po’boy sandwich different is that the guff shrimp used is season and garnished in a way that makes the shrimp taste both sweet and salty without to much of the other.

The sandwich then is perfectly matched with the choice of regular or sweet potato fries, but this can be exchanged for a salad for a dollar more.

The Spoonful’s salads are specialties in itself, the Dixie salad is a great example of a salad that was well though out. The lettuce is a great combination of bleu cheese, strawberries, tomatoes, fresh greens and silvered almonds.  All of these ingredients are so well put together that not one ingredient is more apparent than the other, they are equally there and they are working together to make a great salad.

Another out of the ordinary item is the summertime spaghetti squash, which may throw you off for a second, but it is phenomenal.

The summertime spaghetti squash is squash garished with asparagus, baby heirloom tomatoes and spaghetti sauce. It is almost like eating spaghetti noodles with sause, except the squash has substituted the noodles.

The squash, however , does make for a great substitution, maybe even a healthier own. The squah is so well-cooked that this dish won't seem odd to you after you’ve finished, but rather make you crave it even more.

Obviously, how can a southern restaurant call themselves “southern” without having their own house-made lemonade. According to a waitress at the Spoonful, the lemonade is meant to follow the traditional southern recipes, which is what makes this lemonade no ordinary lemonade.

When you first take a sip, you will probably be taken back at how strong it tastes. The lemonade is so strong that you will feel like your drinking soda for a bit, but once you keep drinking it your tongue will recognize the sweet lemons and sugar used.

What ties this lemonade into the Southern theme is that it is served in jars. The jars and the giant spoons decorated on the wall help make this southern theme alive, without making the restaurant seem cheap.

The inside of the restaurant is very elegant, and with the dish prices ranging from $14 to $17, this restaurant might seem like the type of place you would want to take a date out to.

The Spoonful is located on Cahuenga blvd., and their hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., weekends they close at 12:00 a.m.
