"Suzanne Whang has had breast cancer 3 times in the past 5 years, because like most Asians, she is an overachiever. She was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in Feb 2011, and has been miraculously reversing the disease. With her sense of humor, a holistic approach, honesty, courage and optimism, she is reclaiming her health. Her greatest life lesson from this experience has been to be humble, and to ask for and receive help and love. You know that expression, "We are only as sick as our secrets"? Well, since going public with her journey, she is now making cancer her bitch, and plans to outlive every oncologist who told her that she'd be dead by now. "

great article mary...1. mr castro for civics/history- his political views helped frame our thinking…Read More during the anti-war movement...a few of us became a register of voters when we turned 18 yrs old, and castro or other students with cars, would drive us to downtown high schools to register other students...grass roots politics...2. tui smith for art- she introduced us to tie-dye, macrame, candle-making, and batiking among other traditional art usually taught.... she was generous and exposed us to a variety of artistic theories. 3. miss ruth requeim for p.e.- i concur with mary, she was fantastic and helped mold our love for sports...glad you are still in touch with her mary...wonder if ms marilyn klucken, friends with requeim, is still in the puget sound area..4. phyliss siegel for p.e.- or was that at walter reed mary? she was great and promoted soft ball...fun and inspirational. 5. mrs dunwoody for spanish- although i had her for 3 yrs of spanish, and i thought she was severe, she reached out and help adhere the love of language in us...we translated don quixote...lots of memories...i loved algebra, but can't recall the teacher....anybody recall the algebra teachers?

@MikeSzymanski I must admit that I haven't been able to detect a new format. Where is the format?…Read More Who designed this? All I can tell is that there is a beautiful shot of trees -- perfect! Under that banner all hell breaks lose and you can't tell what you're looking it. There might be a huge blowup of Mr. Walker or a too big notice of something official-looking -- possibly an agenda. I have not been able to navigate through all the stuff. Lots of white space on either side which gives me impression that we're tailoring a community paper more toward an iphone or smart phone (or a tablet).
Maybe I need a GPS to find a good list of contents here. In the meantime, it's not very attractive (exception for the banner trees photo) nor entertaining and not very informative.

We assumed qualifications would be checked and then those best suited would be chosen. Two entries of the same name is in itself so bad makes me feel that all of this should be redone.

I was at the meeting last night and saw all I need to see on how our neighborhood council work. They…Read More had a drawing for the grievance panel. WHAT A SHAM!! They drew 1 guys name twice and rather than stop the proceedings and make sure that the names in the hat were legitimate and no other duplicates exist and redo the drawing, they just drew another name. Now it probably was just a fluke but the appearance of a rigged drawing is there and it taints the whole council and it proceedings. It is very apparent why we need a grievance panel in the first place. When the appearance of corruption exists at the lowest levels of our democratic process it is no wonder that the whole system is collapsing before our eyes. Our neighborhood council should hang their heads in shame!
