Local dad, actor , is among those to be honored at Los Angeles City Hall on Friday at the 137th Irish Day Civic Ceremonies.
Los Angeles Council Member Tom LaBonge is hosting the ceremonies on the third floor downtown. Irish Bagpipers will lead the Irish into the chambers and the ceremonies will feature Irish Step Dancers.
The City of Los Angeles Irish Day Civic Ceremonies dates back to 1876 and has been celebrated by the Mayor and City Council every year since then.
Eamon DeValera, known as the George Washington of Ireland, once addressed the Mayor and City Council during these ceremonies. He went on to become the Taoi seach and later President of Ireland.
The 2012 Irish honorees include Irish actor and Dublin born Johnny O’Callaghan who is currently starring in the critical hit at the Victory Theatre, Galway born Irish composer and creator of the concert show “This Is Ireland” Eimear Noone, Jonathan Loughran who is Senior Vice President of the Irish Film Commission US, Irish American singer and band leader Kris Colt of the Black Rose Irish Band.
