About 1,600 people attended the launch of Universal Studios Singapore on Friday. Various media outlets in Asia covered the event, including channelnewsasia.com.

The attraction is Universal's second theme park in Asia after Universal Studios Japan. The event was attended by several Chinese film stars and crossover star Jet Li, who has appeared in many Asian and American films.

Singer and former American Idol judge Paula Abdul attended the event and also performed.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwartzenegger was also slated to appear, but reportedly canceled his appearance in the wake of his public announcement that he fathered a child with his former maid. According to Eonline.com, it was Universal that did the cancelling.

Universal Studios' flagship location is in the San Fernando Valley tucked next to Toluca Lake, North Hollywood and Studio City. The new Singapore theme park is located within the Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island, Singapore, and has been open to the public on a limited basis as a soft opening since March, 2010. Friday marked it's official grand opening.
