Studio City's Channing Tatum Named Sexiest Man Alive

The local resident joins the other longtime resident George Clooney on People Magazine's Sexy List.

Local dude Channing Tatum was named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive on Wednesday.

According to People, when he was told, he didn't believe it at first.

"My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" Tatum said. He told his wife, Jenna Dewan, while they were washing their dogs in the bathtub after they got skunked near the Fryman Canyon area.

It was a casual reaction to the 32-year-old actor who is often caught by paparazzi at his house while he's washing his car or shooting hoops shirtless.

It wasn't far away in Studio City that he shot key stripping scenes for the male stripper movie Magic Mike. Although the dance club was set in Florida, the fictional club Xquisite where all the action takes place was actually the now-closed historic Platinum Live club in Studio City.

Tatum joins Studio City local George Clooney on the prestigious list. Clooney is the only star other than Johnny Depp (who lived in the Valley) named twice to the list (1997 and 2006) since it started in 1985.

And, upon closer observation, the area has been pretty good about housing others on the Sexiest Man Alive list, including:

Mark Harmon (1986);

Tom Cruise (1990), named when he lived off Ventura Boulevard at the time;

Harrison Ford (1998), who lived in the hills while filming Star Wars; and

Matthew McConaughey (2005) who now has a house in the hills here.

Tatum is now filming Foxcatcher, a true story about the murder of an Olympic gold medal winning wrestler, co-starring Steve Carrell and Mark Ruffalo.
