BACHELOR FATHER debuted on September 15th in 1957. The black & white, half hour situation comedy starred John Forsythe as Bentley Gregg, a wealthy entertainment attorney who is living the bachelor high life. His carefree lifestyle changed when he becomes the legal guardian of his 13 year-old niece, Kelly (Noreen Corcoran). He takes in the teenager after his sister and brother-in-law die in an auto accident. The former playboy soon finds himself turning into a father figure while trying to balance his law practice, love life and taking care of a typical teenage girl.

They live in a mansion in Beverly Hills with Jasper the dog, and Peter (Sammee Tong), the faithful and unflappable Oriental houseboy who runs the Gregg household.

In a 1960 TV Guide interview Forsythe said, "The real joke is not that as a bachelor, I am the girl's father. The funny part is that Sammee Tong behaves in all our family crises as if he were her mother!"

Kelly’s best friend is Ginger Farrell (Bernadette Withers) and her high-school boyfriend is Howard Meechum (Jimmy Boyd). Scene stealing Victor Sen Yung had a recurring role as Peter’s cousin, Charlie.

Guest stars included Billy Gray (Father Knows Best) in episode Ginger's Big Romance and in one of his first roles on television a young Ryan O'Neal played an intense basketball player in episode Bentley and the Great Debate. Mary Tyler Moore guest starred as 'Joanne Sutton' in episode Bentley and the Big Board.

In the Season 4 episode A Crush on Bentley, 17 year old Linda Evanstad, a very young brunette actress, guest starred as 'Liz McGavin' who develops a crush on Bentley. The episode aired on October 13, 1960. The actress went blonde and changed her last name to Evans. Twenty one years later, Linda Evans teamed up with John Forsythe again when she played Krystle Carrington on the mega hit DYNASTY as Blake Carrington's wife.

BACHELOR FATHER has the distinction of airing on all three major network during its original series run. The last episode aired on September 25th in 1962.

BACHELOR FATHER currently airs twice daily in syndication on Antenna TV.

Filmed at , 4024 Radford Avenue in Studio City, CA and  exteriors shot at 120 Colonial Street, Backlot at Universal Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA

Sadly, Sammee Tong passed away of an intentional drug overdose on October 27, 1964, he was 63 years old.

Whit Bissell had a recurring role as 'Bert Loomis' and guest starred on many of the television shows highlighted in this column. He passed away on March 5, 1996 of Parkinson's disease.

John Forsythe passed away at the age of 92 on April 1, 2010 due to complications of pneumonia from cancer. Perhaps best known for his role as oil tycoon Blake Carrington on DYNASTY, the beloved actor was also an important part of another hit television series as the voice of the unseen 'Charlie' in CHARLIE'S ANGELS. He reprised his role as 'Charlie' in the feature films CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2000) and CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE (2003).

In a 1981 interview by The Associated Press, the self-effacing actor said, "I figure there are a few actors like Marlon Brando, George C. Scott and Laurence Olivier who have been touched by the hand of God. I'm in the next bunch."

If this is a photo of Studio City in the banner up there, then it's a beautiful place. My mom wasRead More raised in Hollywood, and I grew up in Long Beach. The trees are really lush in that pic!

Born of the 4th of July and Johnny Got His Gun are definitely not movies honoring our veterans.

With all due respect, Mr. Ortiz, I'm curious about how much you sell the puppies for, do you screenRead More the potential buyers, do you take back a dog if the buyer can no longer care for it, what happens to those dogs that are not bought? I ask these questions because I volunteer at animal shelters and often see purebred dogs being dumped by people who say they cannot commit to the pet. In fact, a purebred Dachshund was recently dumped at the South L.A. shelter. When unwanted dogs and cats are abandoned at shelters and they become overcrowded, innocent animals are being killed to make room. I also recently met two people who "rescued" their dogs from breeders who determined that a puppy from a litter was "not perfect" and could not be shown or used for breeding. One puppy was taken to a vet to be put down, but the vet would not do it and instead gave it to a couple he knew would care for it. The other dog was simply given away, thankfully to a person who is caring and adores the dog. The puppies you are advertising are adorable and I hope they go to loving, responsible, committed people. I also hope you understand where I am coming from and why I urge people to adopt a pet from a shelter. I stand by the slogan "Adopt, don't shop."

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 07:58 pm
Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.
John Walker May 21, 2013 at 05:14 pm
Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 09:06 am
Somewhat presumptuous this early on Voting Day.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

Alex Daniels May 21, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
Jo Perry May 20, 2013 at 08:27 pm
The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
