The Three Musketeers

Tile #248 on the Studio City Walk of Fame

Mascot Films

Directed by: Colbert Clark, Armand Schaefer

CAST: John Wayne, Ruth Hall, Raymond Hatton, Jack Mulhall, Francis X. Bushman Jr., Noah Beery, Jr., Lon Chaney, Jr.

12-episode action adventure serial released in 1933.

The modern adaptation of the classic tale by Alexander Dumas depicts film legend John Wayne, as Lt. Tom Wayne who is framed for the murder of his fiancé's brother. He vows to capture the real killer, a mysterious Arab terrorist known only as El Shaitan, who is never shown in the film.

From historian Marc Wanamaker:

Mascot updated the characters in the Alexandre Dumas classic, "Les Trois Mousquetaires" and publicized it with the tagline: A story of the modern escapades of the most famous adventurers in all fiction!!!

Wayne played Tom Wayne, a D'Artagnan-like American pilot, who along with three Musketeer-like legionnaires (Hatton, Mulhall and Bushman), defend the French Foreign Legion against an Arab uprising.

The story was set in North Africa, with Yuma, Arizona standing in for the location shooting with temperatures approaching 120 degrees. The large cast of villains was played by veteran Western actors costumed in bed sheets.

Episode titles: 1) The Fiery Circle, 2) One For All and All For One, 3) The Master Spy, 4) Pirates of the Desert, 5) Rebel Rifles, 6) Death's Marathon, 7) Naked Steel, 8) The Master Strikes, 9) The Fatal Cave, 10) Trapped, 11) The Measure of a Man, 12) The Value of Comrades.

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.
