Summer Weather Tips Yearound

The summer brings miserable temperatures during the day especially if you live in Southern California.  Walking our dogs has become routine when we ourselves are trying to get in shape and enjoy bringing them along.  Bringing them with us on drives in the car are even worse.  Here are a few do’s and don’ts when deciding to walk or travel with your dog during the summer:

DON’T walk your dog in the middle of the day.  Chances are between the hours of 10am and 4pm the temperatures are going to be in the high 80′s to 90′s or higher.  Just because you feel like walking or jogging in a tank top and shorts doesn’t mean your dog does in a hot fur coat.  Please spare them the torture.

DO consider walking or jogging before 8am or after 6pm.  It is still light outside and the temperatures drop about 10 to 15 degrees in the evenings.

DON’T leave your dog in the car while you run an errand or are doing anything where you have to leave them in the car.  CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!  Even with a window cracked it still leaves room for risk as outside it’s 80 plus degrees, where in the car the temperature doubles with no air flow coupled with the blazing sun.  Be smart, and make smart choices.  Would you want to be left in a car with just a window cracked?

DO leave your pets at home, indoors, and with plenty of air flow and water. Enough said!

Not much else needs to be said just be smart and make smart choices.  Put yourself in your dogs place.  What would they do?
