Carol Champommier Faces the Officers Who Shot her Son

A brave mom confronts the Drug Enforcement Agent Peter Lopresti and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy Mark Brewster who shot at her son, resulting in the death of 18-year-old Zac Champommier.

The federal lawsuit against the government that Carol Champommier brought against the agents and the U.S. government doesn't dispute that the men fired the shot, and that one of them pierced her son from under the side of the arm on one side of his body through to the other side, killing him.

It occurred in one of the busiest parking lots in Studio City, behind the Chipotle's near the Von's at the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon, where a multi-jurisdictional group of police officers were debriefing after a drug raid. The plainclothes officers had cash, drugs and weapons in the cars in the back of the parking lot when they said Zac's car crashed into them, and they fired on him.

What's at dispute is whether that shooting was justified or not. The federal trial's closing arguments ended in court Thursday. Stay tuned to Patch for more details about the closing arguments coming up.

Meanwhile, check out some exclusive video from the mom, just outside the courtroom.
