A Very Positive Trait

Do your kids have traits that make you proud or leave you cringing?

A fellow blogger wrote a post the other day about how she doesn't like it when she sees her kids mirroring her anger. She asked if others could relate, and of course, I think everyone could. I mean let’s face it, as parents we do our best, but the fact remains that we are human and sometimes we fall short.

That is not what this post is about. In fact, it is about the polar opposite. This is about when your kids exhibit traits that you actually like in yourself. I tend to be sarcastic, and I secretly love it when one of my kids delivers a great sarcastic comment. Not a mean one, mind you, but a funny one. Likewise, I am enjoying my oldest daughter’s writing. Her freshman English teacher has her class writing a lot, and in a variety of styles. Tonight it was a sonnet. I dared her to write one about her love of carrots in gravy. We were having pot roast for dinner and she was eagerly anticipating eating some gravy soaked carrots. Not only did she take my dare, but she met the challenge. She has written an entire sonnet about her love of carrots and she will have to present it in front of her class tomorrow. I think my favorite line is “No one believes that carrot love has merits”.

I delight in the fact that my kids each have a strong sense of humor. Life can be hard and if you can’t laugh in certain situations, you are going to be miserable. Misery begets misery, which means it will spread, and soon everyone around you will be miserable. I’d much rather be surrounded by joy, and lucky me, I am!

So tell me, what positive trait do your kids have that you proudly stand up and take credit for?
