When John de Vries came to chat with business leaders at the Studio City Improvement Association a few months ago, he said he was bringing a new kind of Australian gourmet pizza to Studio City by opening a.
"It's not like any pizza you've ever had before, it's delicious!" he insisted.
Well, he wasn't wrong.
Today, Crust is available to all at 11928 Ventura Blvd., at the former computer repair shop.
Ironically, a big kick-off party happened at the same time President Obama was visiting George Clooney around the block, so the streets were closed during a taste testing. But that was OK, since a lot of the locals just walked from home.
Lisa Sarkin, vice president of the Studio City Neighborhood Council, and her husband walked from their house near the Colfax Bridge, where cars were being diverted off Ventura Boulevard. They particularly liked the Angus Prawn pizza with big marinated tiger prawn, red peppers, Hollandaise sause and Angus beef.
Neighborhood Council board member liked the Peri Peri with pesto roaste red peppers, carmelized onions, boccocini and peri peri sauce.
And board member Richard Niederberg complimented the Four Cheese pizza with feta, gorgonzola, bleu cheese and shaved parmesan with a bechamel Chardonnay base. Mmmm.
Pizzas range from $12 to $22 and they also have desserts such as the Hokey Poke Calzone (dark chocolate, carmel cake and honeycomb) and Rock Road Calzone (mud cake with marshmallows and cherries).
And de Vries said, "I love Studio City, there's such a great sense of community, it was a great place to launch a restaurant."
