Great Escape: How to Get Around and Out of the 818 During Carmageddon

Take a free Metro Rail or Bus Ride—or charter a helicopter.

It’s the weekend of Carmageddon, so if you’re looking for a Great Escape, you have a few choices—explore your local community, ride a bike, take public transportation by bus or rail for FREE, or if you’re able to splurge for something a bit more extravagant and need to get to LAX, the Westside or downtown—charter a helicopter.

Briles Wing & Helicopter, Inc., based on the east side of Van Nuys Airport (VNY) is offering one-way and round-trip “Skybridge” jet helicopter shuttle service to LAX, Santa Monica Airport and downtown L.A. beginning Friday, July 15 from noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, July 16-17 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Monday, July 18 from 7 a.m. and continue as needed. The helicopter service will operate between Briles’ office and ramp area at VNY and Landmark Aviation, 6201 West Imperial Highway at LAX. Landmark will provide van-type ground transportation to and from all LAX terminals. For prices, parking, luggage weight limits, flight duration and other info: Phone (818) 994-1445 or e-mail mick@toflyla.com. Briles Wing & Helicopte is located at 16303 Waterman Drive, Van Nuys, CA 91406 (entrance off Woodley Avenue between Roscoe Boulevard and Saticoy). http://www.executive-helishares.com/405/

If you’ve never taken advantage of  the Los Angeles Metrorail and bus routes, this is the perfect time to try it.  There will be free rides on the Metro Orange, Red and Purple lines as well as on 26  bus lines via the Metro in areas most affected by the 405 shutdown.

Here's a list of bus lines offering free rides July 16-17. For more information, go to www.metro.net.

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 07:58 pm
Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

Alex Daniels May 21, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
Jo Perry May 20, 2013 at 08:27 pm
The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
