Group Rep Fundraiser Performance of 'Love Letters' This Weekend

This limited two-night engagement plays Friday and Saturday.

The following press release is from The Group Repertory at the Lonny Chapman Theatre:

Actors Kevin Dobson and Janet Wood met more than thirty years ago in an acting class at the Group Rep Theatre, and are original members of the company.

Dobson was a broke actor who slept on the floor of the theatre, until he landed a job as a series regular on KOJAK with Telly Savalas.  Since then, Dobson has thirty-five movies, four more series (including KNOTS LANDING) and several plays to his credit, including the National Tour of "Twelve Angry Men" directed by Scott Ellis.

In addition to guest star roles on TV and film, Janet Wood was a contract player on Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and is perhaps best known as ‘The Tomato Lady’ on The Wonder Years.  She has performed in numerous plays over the years, and in addition to acting, she is currently developing projects as a TV and film producer.

They couple ran into each other several months ago and re-connected.  Janet urged Kevin to come back to GRT, which he did.  Both actors had always wanted to do LOVE LETTERS so they asked GRT co-artistic directors Larry Eisenberg and Chris Winfield.

So, Kevin Dobson and Janet Wood will be performing the A.R. Gurney play as a fundraiser for the Group Rep.  “After 38 years, it's just very exciting to be a part of something creative benefitting the Group Rep Theatre.”

LOVE LETTERS, directed by Chris Winfield, and produced by Richard Alan Woody, is about a fifty-year love affair carried on through letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences.

This limited two-night engagement plays Friday, June 29 at 8pm and Saturday, June 30 at 8pm, (includes dessert reception with cast after show).  Tickets: $25.  Buy tickets/info:  www.thegrouprep.com or 818-763-5990.  Lonny Chapman Theatre, 10900 Burbank Blvd., NoHo 91601.
