Located on Ventura Boulevard between the bustling streets of Vineland and Tujunga boulevards, it’s easy to overlook one of the best Jamaican restaurant s in the San Fernando Valley.
Studio City serves up a mix of bold, tangy, and spicy Jamaican inspired dishes in atmosphere that emulates being in the Carribean. Their motto: “Mek Yu Lik Yu Finga. Once you sattdown, you b back.”
Originally opened in South Florida, Sattdown recently set its roots in Studio City to give the valley a taste of Jamaican flavors. Firsttimers are warmly welcomed by chef and owner, Tony Hyde, who takes great pride in his restaurant as reflected not only in the dishes he makes but also in the dining atmosphere he provides.
With As customers look over their menus, Chef Hyde not only takes your orders but takes the time to explain each dish, offer suggestions, and answer any questions you may have. Regulars are always greeted with a sense of familiarity, as if they’re a part of the Sattdown family.
Chef Hyde offers a variety of meat dishes, seafood dishes, soups, patties, and even vegan dishes on his menu. The Jamaican patties are always a crowd pleaser. A rectangular pastry with a thin, crispy crust filled with your choice of juicy, seasoned beef, chicken, fish or vegetable, it’s a good start to any meal at Sattdown. All of the dishes come with rice and beans, plantains, a sautéed mix of greens, and a green plantain.
The jerk chicken and the oxtails, tender braised beef tails, are two of their most popular items. Other favorites include the Escovitch Snapper, stew chicken, and the brown steamed snapper.
The Sattdown menu also offers a variety of hearty, homemade soups, chicken, beef, salmon, and veggie burgers, accompanied with fries. Also available are tasty vegan dishes. Sattdown also offers refreshing non-alcoholic beverages from their pine ginger, to the passion fruit lemonade, a great compliment to any of your meal choices.
Sattdown features Chef Hyde’s brand of homemade hot suace and jerk seasoning. Both can be purchased upon request at the restaurant’s counter.
