Stop by the Hive, Lulu's Beehive

This cozy coffee shop on Ventura Boulevard serves coffee, sandwiches and a free musical performance every other Saturday.

What makes for a good coffee place? A huge coffee selection, delicious pastries, freshly made sandwiches and soup, and a quiet corner where you can just hang out and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life. Lulu’s Beehive on Ventura Boulevard offers all this and more.

They serve coffee that’s both strong and robust, and it's neither watered down nor brewed too strong. They brew their coffee just right! If you get a chance to stop by, try their mocha coffee. It’s the perfect blend of coffee and chocolate, neither flavor overpowering the other.  Aside from a wide variety of coffee selections, they have quite a selection of loose leaf teas and other drink items as well. They also serve sandwiches, pastries and pies.

Two sandwich selections I would definitely recommend would be the Albacore Tuna Melt (on sourdough bread) and the Egg Salad sandwich.  Both are extremely satisfying and very reminiscent of mom’s homemade sandwiches.  Combine these sandwiches with their soup of the day, which is usually the split pea soup, and you, my friend, have got it made!

Another thing that makes Lulu’s Beehive a unique coffee shop is its down-to-earth, no-frills atmosphere. Anyone can walk in and feel right at home. The staff is very friendly. They offer free Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets to plug in your laptop or any electronic devices you may carry around. Even at its busiest, Lulu’s Beehive maintains its relaxed and relatively quiet atmosphere. You can still hear yourself think and not get too distracted by the people around you. If you’d like to take a break from your break, you can view their art exhibits which change on a monthly basis.

Lulu’s Beehive hosts music events twice a month on Saturdays. On July 30, there will be a live show from 6-10 p.m. featuring several performers: Guy Arad, Willie Hernandez and Paul Hughes, Holly Overin, Brett Knickerbocker, Bryan Chan, Laurence Behm and Malcolm Orrall, and Paul Zollo. There is no cover charge for the event. All are welcome to join in and enjoy a cup of joe.

For more information, you can visit Lulu’s Beehive at www.thehivecafe.com.

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
