Local attorney Russ Brown will be honored in Sturgis South Dakota during the legendary motorcycle rally where he will be inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame.
Every year the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum inducts a select few members into it's prestigious Hall of Fame who have demonstrated a passionate commitment to promoting, improving, and elevating the motorcycle lifestyle. Motorcycle lawyer Russ Brown has been active in the motorcycle community for over 35 years as an ardent advocate for motorcyclists' rights and freedoms. Russ, being a motorcycle enthusiast all through school, realized soon after graduating, that there was a poor view of motorcycle riders and that a negative image would directly lead to their mistreatment, over-zealous prosecution, and unfair motorcycling laws. As such, he decided to focus his entire practice on assisting motorcyclists across the country.
Russ Brown has been active in many motorcycle organizations including being legal counsel for the Southern California Motorcycle Association, one of the founding members of ABATE of California and served on the board of directors. Russ was also a major financial contributor to the Motorcycle Rights Foundation and was there at its conception.
Very few individuals have fought harder throughout the years for motorcyclists and their freedom. When mandatory helmet laws were being considered across the country, Russ Brown stood up for bikers and their right to ride free. He immediately started a campaign to promote the cause and developed a pocket guide that was designed to help all bikers understand their helmet law rights, even making an appearance on the Today Show to debate California Assemblyman Richard Floyd on the subject of mandatory helmet laws.
Russ Brown continues to be a champion for motorcyclists and their rights. His most recent campaign, "Keep Me Alive Do 't Text and Drive", is to raise awareness of the danger to motorcyclists of texting and driving. He created a sticker with "Keep Me Alive Don't Text & Drive" on it and is offering it for free to anyone who wants one. The sticker is widely available at most major motorcycle event and rallies throughout the USA.
The Creation of BAM, Free Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists:
Russ Brown's single most unique and important safety program to date would most undoubtedly be BAM, his free breakdown and legal assistance program for motorcyclists. He began this program 35 years ago when motorcycle assistance of any kind was virtually unheard of. Now it has blossomed into an incredible emergency service with close to 2 million members. BAM allows riders to help other riders in emergency situations, such as running out of gas, have a flat, need towing, or need help repairing a bike to get it off the road. It is available 24 hours a day - 7 days a week and allows riders from all over the country to ride knowing that they have a great program that is just a phone call away no matter where they choose to ride. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the history of motorcycling and the legacy of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Other 2013 Inductees into the Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame are Rick Fairless, Bill Gikling (J.C. “Pappy” Hoel Outstanding Achievement Award), Marjoe Gortner, Lonnie Isam, Sr. and 'Still' Ray Fitzgerald (Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame).
The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast will take place Wednesday, August 7 at 9 a.m. at The Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, SD.
