The series came on the heels of POLICE WOMAN which also aired on NBC. The comparisons to Dickinson's portrayal of Sgt. Suzanne 'Pepper' Anderson were inevitable.

The theme song was written and performed by Grover Washington Jr.

The series was produced by Johnny Carson’s production company Carson Productions.

From historian Marc Wanamaker's upcoming book:

Angie Dickinson plays the role of Cassie Holland, a former police officer turned private detective who takes over the agency of Lyman "Shack" Shackelford (Ireland) when he retires. Dori Brenner plays the role of Cassie's assistant, a paroled shoplifter and A. Martinez plays a gym manager, Benny, who also works as Cassie's leg man. Cassie uses her considerable good looks and sex appeal as well as her analytical abilities to solve her cases. When she needs help with difficult cases she turns to Shack. When she needs information she turns to her ex-husband, the City District Attorney played by Alex Cord.
