Sunrise MedSpa – Local Acupuncturist Helps Community

Dr. Bena B. Won’s, Sunrise MedSpa will celebrate her ten-year anniversary in Studio City with a “Donation Acupuncture Mondays” starting on Monday, April 22nd from 10a.m. – 4p.m.  The location, at 11239 Ventura Boulevard, suite 214, is upstairs next to where the new Michael’s Art Store will be.

Won’s son and manager, Tim Seo with will be in attendance with other staff. Dr. Won and Tim decided that this was a wonderful way to give back to their community to promote alternative and holistic medicine. The cost of treatment is a donation based on what you want or can pay – there is no pressure other than the release of energy to promote healing and wellness through acupuncture.

Bena came to the United States from South Korea over 40 years ago, she says, “I’m here two times my lifetime, now.” She loves Studio City and closed another nutritional business she had in Irvine when she bought a home in Toluca Lake. This allowed her to build a steady local clientele at Sunrise MedSpa as she became an avid hiker in the surrounding canyons and mountains on her only day off, Sunday.

As the lead RN, Dr. Won has well over 25 years of experience as a registered nurse with ten plus years working as an acupuncturist. There are two sides to Sunrise. The Med offers acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture treatments, massage, cupping and holistic medicines - while her Spa addresses the aging process with Esthetic Laser Skin consultations - Botox injections, fillers, diet, lasers and peels with up-to-date and state-of-the-art equipment. She is licensed in every area of her practice, including International Oriental Medicine.

Acupuncture is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is among the oldest healing practices in the world. Acupuncture's use for certain conditions has been endorsed by the United States National Institutes of Health,  the National Health Service of the United Kingdom, the World Health Organization, theNational Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. 

Sunrise MedSpa focuses on many arenas, sports, weight loss, diseases, fertility as well as the aging process. Dr. Bena Won treats the entire family. She educates by teaching preventative measures and instills the importance of diet for energy, endurance and healing time to coincide with any treatment given.

Never before publicized, are ten babies born as a result of successful treatments Dr. Won designed, combining acupuncture and herbal therapy, to address infertility issues with couples.  She says, “I work with the mothers before, during and after pregnancy to have less painful experiences with childbirth. The acupuncture and herbal treatments also helps the mother get stronger and healthier faster. Treatments for infertility have been very successful.” Bena’s face lights up while talking about her success in making her patients happy, elated to be a part of nurturing lives as much as healing.

“My approach to treatment is always holistic. My dream is to one day have a building of my own which would also be a FoodSpa where I could hang herbs and teach people to cook and understand the importance of them while making tea and having a moxa room for relaxing – decorated in original Oriental ways - from the actual structure to the rooms inside.” Moxa is an ancient healing ritual where practitioners use moxa - made of mugwort - to warm acupuncture point and body regions with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother blood flow.

With a wealth of diversity in her background (see resume on the links below) Dr. Won's is well versed and traversed in combining eastern and western philosophies which allows her to combine alternative with conventional treatment plans for any patient.
