Top Breakfast Spots in Studio City

Start your day with a good breakfast in the 818.

No matter your breakfast mood, Studio City has an eclectic selection of eateries to satisfy your morning cravings.

SMALL TOWN CAFES

This is the perennial cute cafe. Recently redone with olive and rust walls, select booths and new tables, there's a wide choice of breakfast items including omelets, crepes, pancakes, breakfast burritos and waffles and their special Cinammon Kiss—French baguette dipped in a brandy egg batter, golden brown, glazed in sugar and cinnamon on a bed of banana walnut saute.

You're likely to find cops sitting next to actors at this neighborhood cafe serving breakfast classics, plus the Eggs a la Fisdale—two poached eggs with spinach or ham and topped with tomato and cheese.

With its indoor/outdoor seating, Vivian's begs for an ocean nearby, but Ventura Boulevard will have to do. Basic breakfast of eggs and bacon mix with a wide choice of omelets, signature scrambles and some filling combos. Dogs are welcome at select tables in back.

Known for its pizza and "The" Salad, this Tujunga Avenue eatery  serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday, whipping up scrambles, pancakes, waffles and their specialty, Bachelor Toast (two
jumbo fried eggs in grilled sourdough bread holes with applewood bacon.

Home of the best caffe latte around with perfect foam, this indoor/outdoor urban eatery offers an array of egg dishes, pancakes, french toast, a signature breakfast panini and some select Mexican-themed entrees for rustic breakfast fare. The roasted potatoes are not to be missed.

Everything is giant-sized at this sister cafe to Sherman Oaks' Jinky's. Crepes, benedicts, cakes, waffles and eggs every which way.

Go retro at this small cafe inside Studio City's historic hotel. Gone are the dark booths which have been replaced with white retro vinyl with red accents. The menu is old-school comfort breakfast.

EUROPEAN STYLE

This outdoor cafe most often has a line out the door with people waiting to order special baked goods, coffee, tea and some very interesting seasonal breakfast choices, including eggs, veggies and melted brie; a breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese and bacon; and a shrimp and lobster omelet.

Predominantly a bakery, it also serves up made-to-order omelets and ready-made individual quiches and filled croissants.

This English/Cape Cod style marketplace/cafe serves up pots of coffee and tea and offers a variety of eggs, omelets, benedicts (which can be ordered on latkes, grilled polenta or English muffins), savory and sweet crepes, croques and french toast.

Indoor and outdoor seating characterize this eatery that offers up a variety of scrambles as well as a sweet and savory selection of croissant sandwiches.

The European boulangerie with indoor/outdoor seating is a chain restaurant that doesn't resemble a chain. There's a bakery as well as a seasonal menu servings omelets, poached eggs, steel-cut oatmeal, berry parfaits and more.

HEALTHY-ISH

Known as a "healthy choice" restaurant, it's got it all—pancakes, omelets, waffles, tofu scrambles and more.

Another "healthy" eatery with wheat, tofu and gluten-free choices, Hugo's is famous for its Pasta Mama: pasta mixed with eggs and other seasonings. An oatmeal frittata mixes in with egg dishes, pancakes and more.

DELIS AND COFFEE SHOPS

At 50-plus, this family-owned restaurant is one of the oldest in the 818. If walls and booths could talk, oh, the stories you would hear about some of the biggest entertainment deals being made.

Home of the biggest menu in town. Name what you want and you're likely to find it.

This original coffee shop goes back over 70 years, is filled with booths and a menu boasting traditional fare such as corned beef hash, ham and cheese omelets, pancakes, sausage and bacon.

A classic old-school coffee shop with a wraparound "L" design of counter and booths. It serves eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles and hash browns. That canned peach half on the plate just adds to the kitsch.

If this is a photo of Studio City in the banner up there, then it's a beautiful place. My mom wasRead More raised in Hollywood, and I grew up in Long Beach. The trees are really lush in that pic!

Born of the 4th of July and Johnny Got His Gun are definitely not movies honoring our veterans.

With all due respect, Mr. Ortiz, I'm curious about how much you sell the puppies for, do you screenRead More the potential buyers, do you take back a dog if the buyer can no longer care for it, what happens to those dogs that are not bought? I ask these questions because I volunteer at animal shelters and often see purebred dogs being dumped by people who say they cannot commit to the pet. In fact, a purebred Dachshund was recently dumped at the South L.A. shelter. When unwanted dogs and cats are abandoned at shelters and they become overcrowded, innocent animals are being killed to make room. I also recently met two people who "rescued" their dogs from breeders who determined that a puppy from a litter was "not perfect" and could not be shown or used for breeding. One puppy was taken to a vet to be put down, but the vet would not do it and instead gave it to a couple he knew would care for it. The other dog was simply given away, thankfully to a person who is caring and adores the dog. The puppies you are advertising are adorable and I hope they go to loving, responsible, committed people. I also hope you understand where I am coming from and why I urge people to adopt a pet from a shelter. I stand by the slogan "Adopt, don't shop."

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.
John Walker May 21, 2013 at 05:14 pm
Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.
Barbara Krause May 21, 2013 at 09:06 am
Somewhat presumptuous this early on Voting Day.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

Alex Daniels May 21, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
Jo Perry May 20, 2013 at 08:27 pm
The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
