Coldwater Canyon Report, V

Note: Each week the office of Councilmember Paul Krekorian sends an email update on the Coldwater Canyon trunkline project. To receive those emails, simply send a note to Geoffrey.Yazzetta@lacity.org.

This is the fifth update in a series of email notifications regarding a project to install a new 60-inch pipe underneath Coldwater Canyon Avenue to ensure the safety and reliability of our drinking water. As you know, the project cannot be done without closing Coldwater Canyon from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

The construction, which began March 23rd, is in the final stages of completion and is still expected to be completed toward the end of next week; we will soon announce exactly when Coldwater will reopen.

As of today, April 19, the DWP has installed all of the connection pieces at each of the work zones. Welders are currently installing protective sealing inside and outside of the pipe at the individual connection points. When this is complete the crew will do a final disinfection to ensure the cleanliness of the water that will eventually travel through this trunk line.

At this point, the only work items left to be completed include: backfilling and compacting the trenches, removing the shoring beams and restoring the roadway. Councilmember Krekorian would like to thank you very much for your patience as we draw near the conclusion of this large infrastructure upgrade.
