A New Generation of Leadership For Studio City

Dan Nieman and Sarah Angel offer new ideas for the Studio City Neighborhood Council.

I am proud to live in Studio City and like most things, I believe there are things that can be improved. As you likely know there is a neighborhood council election on September 20. My wife, Sarah Angel, and I are running for neighborhood council for a three reasons:

  • We believe that it's incredibly important for a new generation of leaders to play a role in the future of Studio City. As homeowners, we plan to raise our daughter and future children here and send them to public schools in our neighborhood. There are many families like ours in Studio City and we want to be their voice on the council.
  • We want to see a more connected Studio City. We believe there is ample opportunity to make more connections between neighbors. We want to live in a place where it's common that hikers talk to each other at Fryman Canyon and neighbors chat with each other at Trader Joe's. To further that connectedness, we would work to start Studio City outdoor movie nights or concerts at the parks during the summer. We would also like to see some of the neighborhood council budget go towards local neighborhood block parties like the ones we have in Landale Square so Studio City residents can get to know their neighbors.
  • We believe the neighborhood council should create an education committee to inform families of their educational options and opportunities in Studio City and throughout the valley. As a former educator and education non-profit leader, I understand the need to focus on our schools, the issues surrounding students, and the partnerships that can be formed between schools and community organizations. And as a prosecutor, Sarah understands the importance of ensuring safe schools and communities.

We are excited to have partnered with John Lawler and Scott Ouellette on a slate (see the accompanying flyer) that we hope will bring a new generation of leadership to Studio City.

Please remember to vote on Thursday, September 20, 2012 @ Walter Reed Middle School, between 2:30 - 8:30pm and support our community.

Sincerely,

Dan Nieman and Sarah Angel

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....

The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
