4/20 in History: Columbine Massacre, Hitler's Birthday, a Cannabis Holiday
Do you remember where you were April 20, 1999, when Columbine High School became the deadliest school shooting?
April 20 or 4/20 has become a counterculture day to celebrate cannabis.
On this day in 1889, Adolf Hitler was born. Many use this day as a reminder never to forget the Holocaust and the 6 million Jews who were tortured and killed.
In 1999, April 20 became the date of the worst school shooting in history (it would become the second deadliest on April 16, 2007, when a gunman at Virginia Tech killed 33 people, including himself). Many can still remember where they were when they saw the chilling footage of the Columbine High School massacre. Dylan Klebold, 18, and Eric Harris, 17, killed 12 students and a teacher while wounding dozens of others at their school in Littleton, CO, before killing themselves.
