Opening Weekend at Cactus Tacos Gets a Big Thumbs Up
Thousands of tacos and burritos were served up over the weekend at the new Cactus Tacos in the location of the former Henry's Tacos.
Meanwhile, Henry's Tacos in its new location was faring well, too.
As lines for the new stand were down the block, overflow crowds went to Henry's about 200 yards away in the Tujunga Village are of Studio City.
"It was a great turnout all weekend, it was more than I could have imagined," said young Marlo Tornel, the head chef at the new taco stand.
"We thank everyone for coming, everyone seemed very nice," said his mother Martha Silva, who was also taking orders all weekend. "We are exhausted."
The crowds didn't seem to mind the nearly 45 minutes to an hour wait sometimes, as the $1 tacos and $3.50 burrito specials were dished out.
"Now, we will hope that everyone will come back," said father, Marlo (aka Mario) Tornel, who also owns two other Cactus (Taco) Tacquerias in Hollywood.
Regular hours for the stand will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and opened until 11 p.m. on weekends.
"We were going to stay opened until late for the people coming out of the Star Lite Lounge and other places, so they could get something to eat, but it didn't seem like there would be enough traffic," Tornel said.
