Preliminary Hearing Due for Suspect in Valley Village Woman's Stabbing Death

Judge expected to determine whether evidence against Omar Armando Loera is sufficient to go to trial.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for on Wednesday morning. He is charged in connection with the July 24 stabbing death of 34, at her apartment in Valley Village.

Loera was arrested in Mexicali, Mexico, and was officially charged with one count each of murder, burglary, arson and assault with a deadly weapon.

Osmanhodzic, who was engaged to be married, was found stabbed with a sword in a burning apartment.

In the preliminary hearing, the prosecution’s case is generally laid out and details of the case are explained while the judge determines if there is enough evidence for the trial to continue.

If convicted, Loera could face the death penalty.

The hearing, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Department 122 of the Van Nuys West Courthouse, will be heard by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Jessica P. Silvers.

A representative of Osmanhodzic's family said relatives plan to attend.
