The "Fast and Furious" cars are still on display at Universal City Walk, but a little indy horror movie knocked it off its perch in the top of the box office this weekend.
The low-budget horror flick beat all expectations over the weekend to top the North American box office, besting the high-octane "Fast & Furious 6," according to final figures released today.
"The Purge" earned $34.1 million between Friday and Sunday to dominate theaters, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.
The unexpected performance of "The Purge" was enough to drop "Fast & Furious 6" to second place with $19.6 million, while the magician-centered caper "Now You See Me" dipped to third with $19 million.

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's comedy "The Internship" debuted in fourth place with $17.3 million, followed by the animated 3-D film "Epic," which earned $11.9 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were "Star Trek Into Darkness" ($11.4 million); "After Earth" ($10.7 million); "The Hangover Part III" ($7.3 million); "Iron Man 3" ($5.7 million); and "The Great Gatsby" ($4.2 million).
