'Super Moon' in the Skies Above Studio City Tonight

Saturday's full moon will be the closest to Earth in nearly 20 years, according to NASA.

Look to the sky tonight and see the moon in rare form. This weekend may be the perfect time to grab a friend and take a night walk.

The moon will appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter in the sky especially when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset, according to NASA.

Tonight's full moon will reach a point called the ‘lunar perigee’, which is the point in the lunar cycle when the moon is closest to Earth. At a distance of 221,567 miles, the moon hasn’t been this close since 1992. It's also called a 'Super Moon' because of the size it will appear at sunset.

What better a spot in West Hollywood to view this moon than in one of the nearby hiking trails in Runyon Canyon or Griffith Park?

The access road to Griffith Park’s Observatory stays open until 10 p.m., which allows easy parking and access to one of the many trails. The famous Hollywood Trail will take you to the highest point in the park and closest to the Hollywood sign. Weather permitting, the parks will give you the perfect spot to reach up and touch this magical moon.

A friend’s patio terrace up in the hills will do nicely too. Invite yourself over and turn this moon watch into a party. Tap Dancing, howling and wish-making are optional.
