The bad news for those who like daylight is we won't have much today.
Dec. 21, 2012, is the winter solstice in earth's Northern Hemisphere, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac.
The good news is days begin getting longer again on Saturday!
The sun's path will reach its southern most high noon position in the sky, directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, according to An Almanac Minute: The Winter Solstice. The short video is attached to this article.
Keep in mind, that winter does intend to make its presence known today, too. Temperatures are expected to dip this evening to near-freezing, and the low today is expected at 36 degrees, according to Grant Mills and the Studio City Weather Station.
