Valley View Newsletter: Face Painters Needed, Spring Fling Planning and More

A newsletter from the little school in the Cahuenga Plass and serving the west of Studio City.

PTA News Volunteers Needed!

Calling all Face Painters! We need people for one-hour shifts of face painting at the Spring Fling. We don't need you to sign up for specific time-slots at this time, just tell us you're interested! No experience required! Training will take place over spring break, so please email Aliyah ataliyahbielma@yahoo.com or call her at 818-915-6667 to say you're interested and she and Philip will work out details!

One of the requests we got for Spring Fling was the addition of a Diva Center: hair braids, hair wraps, glitter streaks, color spray, and/or nail-painting. Do we have anyone out there who would be interested in coordinating this venture? Please email Bonnie at  bonnie.george@valleyviewelementary.org

We need a volunteer to sell snacks after-school on Thursdays! Any takers? It's a fun job, very rewarding, and much appreciated by our students. Please email Solange atsnacksales@valleyviewelementary.org or go to the PTA room on Thursday afternoon. Thanks!

RICALDO RICARDO RHODEN

I was born and raised in Jamaica, W.I., in a small town called Ocho Rios, which was once a fishing village before it became a tourist destination known as the home of the world famous Dunn's River Falls. I moved to the United States twelve years ago. My partner, Cas, and I are the proud parents of Valley View kindergartner, Jamaya Blue.

Q1: What is your favorite occupation? RRR: My favorite occupation is being a chef. I started cooking when I was about eight years old, (a lot of chefs say that, but for me it's true.) As a young boy, I spent a lot of time with my mom in the kitchen, and I got bored with her food. She'd cook the same things over and over again. One day, I went in the kitchen before she got home from work and cooked dinner myself. It was a big hit with the family, and that was the beginning of my culinary journey.Q2: What are your hobbies?RRR: Playing soccer, watching soccer, fishing, cooking and hanging out on the beach with Jamaya.
Q3: What is your favorite color?RRR: Yellow, because it reminds me of happiness and sunshine. I like to smile, and I think if a smile had a color it would be yellow...the smile not the teeth! ;-)
Q4: What was your favorite childhood food?RRR: Cook-up rice. We'd use all the weeks leftovers, rice and peas from Sunday, leftover brown stewed chicken, or curried goat or whatever, and left over vegetables. All of that is tossed into one pan and finished with a little chopped green onion, and then you let it sit on the fire until the rice on the bottom gets crispy. You can clean out your fridge, and make the best meal of the week doing it. Q5: What is your most treasured possession?RRR: My green card! CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS
