Bryan Chan and Friends Music Showcase

We are set for another night of music at Jump Cut Café (formerly Lulu’s Beehive) at 13203 Ventura Blvd Studio City 91604  Sept. 28th between 6pm and 10pm.. This will be, as always, an up close and intimate performance.  Jump Cut Cafe serves awesome coffee drinks, sandwiches, soups, salads and taste treats. There will be no cover charge for this event. The line up for the night is as follows.

6pm to 6:30pm---Simon Lucas
Simon is a ‘folky’ from England. He has been in the U.S.A. for 30 years but still
speaks funny. He collects stringed instruments, some of which he can even play. He normally plays guitar, but has been known to pick up a string bass, dulcimer, cuatro or marxophone. He has a deep voice and sings a mixture of Irish, Scottish, Country and anything else he hears that he likes. He also has a stock of amusing songs, which sometimes he can be bribed into singing. He refuses to make CDs, so if you want to hear him, you will have to find him onstage playing live.

6:30pm to 7pm---Eddie Edwards and Matt Malley
Eddie Edwards & the Psychedelic Spurs started back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, as a "whoever is available for the gig and into flying by the seat of your pants" kind of affair. The call would go out to those who were in town off the road or locals between gigs. Some came out to keep up their chops, but most came just to have fun, which, there certainly was no lack of. Coming in cold and playing with cats you've sometimes never met, or at least never rehearsed with, added an element of excitement for the musicians as well as the audience. Many world class players through the years have been regular and one off Spurs. Tonight Matt Malley will join in on bass.

7:00pm to 7:30pm--- Sandy Ross
Sandy Ross has been entertaining audiences with her own special blend of contemporary folk and acoustic blues for more than four decades.  During the ‘70s she had songs recorded by Kim Carnes and Anne Murray; during the ‘90s she toured the greater US doing syndicated radio shows and coffeehouse and bookstore performances.  In 1996-1998 she made the FOLKDJ-L top 50 twice, and in 1999 two of Sandy’s CDs were incorporated into the Smithsonian Folkways catalog, in addition to the Fast Folk recordings she made for the two Los Angeles compilation albums.  Said Sheri Stanley in Folk Music magazine, “Sandy’s music will move you, sometimes to anger, sometimes to tears and sometimes to stomping your feet.”

In 2005 Sandy wrote and compiled the book A Place Called the Bla-Bla Café, which is an insider’s look at Hollywood talent showcasing against the historically political backdrop of the 1970s.  The book has received great reviews and accolades from indie book publishing organizations and readers’ websites, including a 2007 Independent Publishers Book Award (IPPY).

9:00pm to 9:30pm--- Ryan Arklin
Ryan Arklin was born and raised in the Santa Clarita Valley, and considered himself an “average kid”…until an injury in 2007 suddenly left him paralyzed from the neck down.  In Ryan’s own words: “I would ‘run’ and ‘jump’ in my mind like I always did, but nothing would move at all. Several doctors told me that I would never move anything from my neck down again. After months in the hospital and years of physical therapy I regained most of my mobility and a new perspective on life. Since then, I have tried new things that would have never come to mind had I not broken my neck.” Ryan taught himself to play guitar and within a year he was accepted to study music at California Institute of the Arts. He is an active singer-songwriter, passionate about exploring his own voice through song. Ryan has played at local bars and parties through out the Santa Clarita Valley, including the City Mayor Bob Kellar's house.
