Coyote Takes Small Dog

 Studio City  See map

My two year old yorkie named Gizmo was taken last night December 3rd, by a coyote.  I live near the valley and in the hills of studio city it is not unusual for us to see coyotes in the area, my name is Paige and I am 14.

It was around 7pm and my mom walked outside to the car to get the groceries and our two dogs Gizmo the yorkie and Maggie our poodle walk on the side of the hill to sniff around and go potty. Groceries in hand my mom glances to check on the dogs and sees Gizmo in the coyote's mouth. She chased the animal screaming and yelling for help down the hill, with our older poodle maggie following behind. All of a sudden from my room I hear my mother screaming my name.

I grab my robe and find my mother outside, "A coyote took Gizmo!" my mom was muddy and in tears and followed behind was my 8 year old poodle Maggie also covered in mud. I grabbed her to check and see if she was injured which she was not.  I started to scream and cry for help. My heart was broken and our two neighbors came outside to see what the commotion was about I sat on the floor with my Maggie in my arms crying and screaming while my mom ran down the hill looking for the coyote with our neighbors.

But the sun started to set. We called my stepdad who was in New york at that time, he got the soonest flight back to LA.  around 20 minutes after what happened my mother and I took a drive to see if we could find the coyote.  as we were driving up a hill I see a coyote the size of a german shepherd holding my baby in its mouth.

I jump out of the car while it was still moving and the car ran over the side of my foot near my ankle and heel.  I ran up the drive way with the flashlight limping and crying and screaming. The coyote got away before I got anywhere near it we looked for about an hour more, it was no use the coyote took Gizmo. We went back home and went for another search at around 8 or 9pm, but no luck we came home and tried to fall asleep.

I woke up around 2am my mom was crying saying how when she got up to go to the bathroom Gizmo usually gets up out of bed with her.  But he was no longer with us. we cried till we fell asleep again.  the next morning was hard I'm use to the two puppys getting up in the morning with us but Maggie is without her baby brother now.

Brad landed and came home.  We cried and cried and are still mourning. We called animal control to see if anyone could help us. The expert investigated and found areas so close to our house where coyotes feed and could possibly live. These coyote's are not afraid of humans anymore they stalk you for days and study your schedule.

If you do see a coyote or any other animal predator in your area do not hesitate to notify animal control and your neighborhood.  I Am still in tears I miss my Bubby, Gizmo so much. I am seeking help or advice, and I'd like to hear if you've been in the same situation.

I am still praying for my baby. :'(

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.
